Technical Dossier
The GE IS210 series constitutes the primary I/O and control module family for the GE Mark VI and Mark VIe Turbine Control Systems — the dominant distributed control platform deployed across gas turbines, steam turbines, and combined-cycle power generation units globally. Installations span petrochemical complexes, nuclear auxiliary systems, LNG terminals, offshore platforms, and refinery utilities across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. The IS210 series operates within the VME-based backplane architecture of the Mark VI and the later Ethernet-based IONet architecture of the Mark VIe, providing deterministic real-time control with redundancy configurations up to triple modular redundancy (TMR). The installed base of Mark VI and Mark VIe systems exceeds tens of thousands of turbine units worldwide, making IS210 module availability a critical operational requirement for plant maintenance teams and OEM service providers.
The IS210 module family was introduced alongside the Mark VI platform in the mid-1990s as GE's successor to the Mark V (IS200 series) control system. The Mark VI employed a VME backplane with proprietary IONet serial communication between the controller (VCMI) and I/O packs. Modules in this generation — including the IS210BPPBH2CAA — are passive backplane boards that interface between the terminal board layer and the VME controller rack.
With the introduction of the Mark VIe in the mid-2000s, GE transitioned to an Ethernet-based IONet (100 Mbps) and a distributed I/O pack architecture. Many IS210-series terminal boards retained physical and functional compatibility across both generations, though firmware and communication card requirements differ. The Mark VIe introduced the UCSC, UCSA, and UCSB controller modules, replacing the VCMI/VCCA architecture of the Mark VI. Plants operating mixed Mark VI / Mark VIe environments must carefully manage IS210 module revisions (suffix letters: A, B, C, D, E) to ensure backplane and firmware compatibility. End-of-production notices for several IS210 variants were issued between 2015 and 2020, though GE continues to offer repair and limited new-manufacture supply through its Parts & Repairs division.

DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory program for IS210 series modules, with particular focus on variants that GE has discontinued or placed on extended lead-time allocation. The IS210BPPBH2CAA and related backplane boards are no longer in standard production; sourcing requires access to tested surplus, factory-refurbished, or OEM-repaired stock.
DriveKNMS provides the following lifecycle extension services for the IS210 range:
All IS210 modules sourced through DriveKNMS are accompanied by a test report and a 12-month warranty against functional failure under normal operating conditions.
IS210 series boards present specific test challenges due to their VME backplane bus architecture and passive signal routing functions. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all IS210 modules prior to dispatch:
