Technical Dossier
The ICS Triplex T8300 series is a fault-tolerant distributed control system (DCS) platform engineered for continuous-process industries where unplanned downtime carries catastrophic operational and safety consequences. Deployed extensively across petrochemical complexes, offshore oil and gas platforms, nuclear power generation facilities, and large-scale refinery operations, the T8300 architecture is built on triple modular redundancy (TMR) principles — a design philosophy that allows any single module failure to be tolerated without process interruption.
The T8300 platform occupies a critical position in global heavy industry installed bases. Facilities in the North Sea, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and the Gulf Coast region have standardized on T8300 hardware for safety instrumented systems (SIS) and basic process control systems (BPCS). The series is fully compliant with IEC 61508 SIL 3 requirements, making it a reference architecture for functional safety engineers worldwide.
Due to the long operational lifecycles typical of heavy industrial facilities (20–40 years), T8300 hardware remains in active service at thousands of sites globally, even as the product line has entered its mature/end-of-life phase. Sourcing genuine, tested replacement modules is a primary maintenance challenge for asset owners and reliability engineers.
The T8300 series was developed by ICS Triplex (later acquired by Rockwell Automation) as a successor to earlier TMR platforms, incorporating a backplane-based modular architecture that allowed field engineers to replace individual I/O, communication, and processor modules without shutting down the control system. This hot-swap capability was a defining advancement over earlier monolithic DCS designs.
Early Generation (T8000/T8100 predecessors): Proprietary bus architecture, limited I/O density, no fieldbus support. Modules were largely non-interchangeable across chassis generations.
T8300 Mid-Generation: Introduction of the T8300 backplane with standardized module form factors. Expansion of I/O module types (analog, digital, thermocouple, RTD). Integration of HART communication pass-through on analog I/O modules. Processor modules gained expanded memory and faster scan rates.
T8300 Late/Current Generation: Addition of Profibus DP and Modbus TCP communication adapters. Enhanced diagnostics and self-test routines embedded in firmware. Compatibility with Trusted Safety Manager (TSM) software suite. This generation represents the final active development phase before the platform transitioned to maintenance-only support.
Modern Alternatives: Rockwell Automation positions the AADvance and Trusted T9110 platforms as migration targets for T8300 installations. However, migration projects are capital-intensive and operationally disruptive, meaning the majority of T8300 sites will continue operating existing hardware for the foreseeable future, sustaining strong demand for spare parts and repair services.
The following SKUs represent the core module population of the T8300 series, organized by functional category. All models listed are genuine ICS Triplex part numbers verified against field installation records and OEM documentation.

The T8300 series has entered the end-of-active-production phase. ICS Triplex / Rockwell Automation no longer manufactures new T8300 modules, and OEM spare parts inventory is depleted or available only at extended lead times through authorized channels. For plant operators committed to maintaining existing T8300 installations — rather than undertaking full DCS migration — independent spare parts suppliers with verified stock and testing capability are the primary sourcing option.
DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of T8300 series modules sourced from decommissioned systems, controlled factory surplus, and verified secondary market channels. All units undergo functional testing before dispatch. DriveKNMS provides:
The T8300 platform's TMR architecture introduces specific testing requirements that differ from standard PLC module verification. Each module must be validated not only for standalone function but for correct behavior within a voted triple-redundant configuration. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all T8300 modules:
