Technical Dossier
The IXYS MCC95 series comprises phase-controllable thyristor (SCR) modules rated at 95 A average on-state current, designed for deployment in heavy industrial power conversion systems. These modules are installed across global heavy industry sectors including chemical processing plants, nuclear power auxiliary systems, oil refineries, steel rolling mills, and marine drive systems. The MCC95 platform operates within the standard IXYS stud-and-flat-base package format, enabling direct interchangeability with legacy rectifier assemblies. Repetitive peak off-state voltage ratings span from 800 V to 1800 V depending on the specific variant, making the series applicable to both 400 V and 690 V AC bus architectures. The series is manufactured to IEC 60747-6 standards and is compatible with standard thyristor gate drive circuits operating at 100–200 mA gate trigger current.
The MCC95 series belongs to IXYS's second-generation stud-mount thyristor module family, succeeding earlier discrete stud-mount SCR devices that required individual heatsink mounting and external snubber networks. The MCC95 package integrates two thyristors in an anti-parallel (AC switch) or series (DC switch) configuration within a single isolated base module, reducing assembly footprint by approximately 40% compared to discrete implementations.
Early variants of the MCC95 (circa 1990s production) used aluminum wire bonding and aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) ceramic substrates. Later production runs transitioned to direct copper bonding (DCB) on aluminum nitride (AlN) substrates, improving thermal conductivity from approximately 24 W/m·K to 170 W/m·K and extending power cycling capability. The MCC95 series has entered the mature/end-of-life phase of its product lifecycle. IXYS (acquired by Littelfuse in 2018) continues to supply select variants, but several voltage sub-grades are now manufactured to order only or sourced exclusively through authorized distributors and specialist spare parts suppliers. For facilities operating legacy drive systems built around MCC95 modules, long-term maintenance sourcing from specialist suppliers is the primary procurement strategy.
The following SKUs represent the verified MCC95 series product range, classified by voltage rating and configuration. Each module is rated at 95 A (ITAV) average on-state current.

MCC95 modules present specific test challenges due to their dual-thyristor internal topology and isolated copper base construction. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all MCC95 units prior to dispatch:
Off-state blocking voltage test: Each unit is tested at VDRM/VRRM per the rated voltage grade using a programmable high-voltage source. Leakage current is measured and compared against the original IXYS datasheet specification (typically IDRM ≤ 20 mA at rated voltage, 125°C junction temperature equivalent).
Gate trigger characterization: Gate trigger voltage (VGT) and gate trigger current (IGT) are measured at 25°C. Units with VGT or IGT outside the datasheet window (typically VGT ≤ 1.5 V, IGT ≤ 150 mA) are rejected.
On-state voltage drop (VTM): Forward voltage drop is measured at rated current to verify junction integrity. Elevated VTM indicates degraded silicon or bond wire fatigue.
Isolation voltage test: Base-to-terminal isolation is tested at 2500 V AC (50 Hz, 1 minute) per IEC 60747-6 to verify ceramic substrate integrity — a critical check for modules sourced from field-removed stock.
Thermal resistance verification: Where test equipment permits, Rth(j-c) is estimated via transient thermal measurement to confirm heatsink interface integrity.
All test results are logged per unit. Test reports are available upon request for critical procurement applications.
