Technical Dossier
The Emerson PR9268 series comprises eddy-current proximity transducer systems and vibration sensors engineered for continuous machinery protection in heavy industrial environments. Deployed across petrochemical refineries, nuclear power stations, offshore platforms, and large rotating machinery installations, the PR9268 series operates as a core sensing layer within Emerson's machinery health monitoring infrastructure. These sensors interface directly with Bently Nevada 3500 series monitoring racks and compatible vibration monitoring systems, providing shaft displacement, vibration amplitude, and proximity measurements critical to turbine, compressor, and pump protection schemes. The series is recognized by plant reliability engineers globally as a long-lifecycle, field-proven transducer family with broad installed base across ISO 10816 and API 670 compliant monitoring systems.
The PR9268 series was developed as part of Emerson's (formerly Bently Nevada) eddy-current transducer platform, succeeding earlier 7200 and 3300 series proximity probe families. Early PR9268 variants were designed for direct integration with analog vibration monitoring panels using 4–20 mA and voltage output signals. As plant automation migrated toward digital DCS and PLC architectures through the 1990s and 2000s, the PR9268 series was adapted with enhanced cable assemblies, extended temperature ratings, and improved EMI shielding to maintain compatibility with both legacy analog racks and modern digital monitoring systems such as the Bently Nevada 3500/40M and 3500/42M monitor modules.
The series spans standard proximity probes, extension cables, and driver/oscillator units, forming a three-component measurement chain. Compatibility between probe, cable, and driver must be maintained within the same gap voltage calibration range (typically –10 VDC nominal). Later revisions introduced stainless steel housing options, high-temperature variants for steam turbine applications, and metric/imperial thread configurations to address global installation standards. As of 2024, several PR9268 sub-models have entered end-of-life status, making aftermarket sourcing and certified refurbishment the primary supply channel for maintenance operations.
The following SKUs represent the documented PR9268 series range. Each unit is classified by function within the eddy-current measurement chain:
Proximity Probes (Sensing Elements)
Extension Cables
Driver / Oscillator Units
Multiple PR9268 sub-models have been discontinued by Emerson as the product line transitions toward the newer 3300 XL and 330100 series transducer families. For plants operating legacy Bently Nevada 3500 monitoring racks, direct replacement with current-production equivalents is not always feasible without recalibration of the entire measurement chain. DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of PR9268 series components sourced from decommissioned plant stock, authorized distributor overstock, and certified refurbishment programs.
All PR9268 units supplied by DriveKNMS are subject to gap voltage verification, cable continuity testing, and dimensional inspection against OEM drawings prior to dispatch. For obsolete models where new-old-stock (NOS) is unavailable, DriveKNMS can provide cross-reference analysis to identify the nearest current-production equivalent and advise on measurement chain reconfiguration. Long-term maintenance agreements (LTMAs) covering multi-year PR9268 spare parts supply are available for refineries and power generation facilities with extended turnaround cycles.
The PR9268 measurement chain — probe, extension cable, and driver — must be tested as an integrated system to validate gap voltage linearity and sensitivity (nominally –7.87 V/mm for 8mm probes). DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all PR9268 units prior to shipment:
Test records are retained for 5 years and available upon request with each shipment.
