Technical Dossier
The GE IS215 series is a core component family within the GE Mark VIe Turbine Control System, deployed globally across heavy industrial sectors including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power stations, combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plants, and offshore oil & gas platforms. The IS215 designation identifies the second-generation I/O and controller boards engineered for the Mark VIe distributed control architecture, which replaced the earlier Mark V and Mark VI platforms. These modules operate within a triple-redundant (TMR) or simplex configuration, providing deterministic real-time control with high fault tolerance. Installed base spans hundreds of facilities across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific, making long-term spare parts availability a critical operational concern for plant maintenance engineers and reliability teams.
The IS215 series emerged as GE transitioned from the Mark VI (IS200 series) to the Mark VIe platform in the early 2000s. The IS200 series established the foundational backplane and VME-based bus architecture; the IS215 series retained backward-compatible I/O signal wiring while introducing an Ethernet-based IONet communication backbone, replacing the earlier serial IONET. This shift enabled higher data throughput, improved diagnostics, and integration with GE's Toolbox configuration software. Key architectural milestones include the introduction of the UCUEH controller board (Universal Controller Unit with Ethernet and High-speed processing), the TBCI and TBQC terminal board families for field signal termination, and the DSPX/DSPM digital signal processing modules for flame detection and vibration monitoring. As of 2026, the IS215 series is in the mature-to-declining lifecycle phase; GE (now part of GE Vernova) has introduced the Mark VIeS and Mark VIeR platforms as successors. However, the installed base of IS215-based Mark VIe systems remains extensive, and OEM new production of select modules has been discontinued, making certified refurbished and surplus new stock the primary sourcing channel for maintenance operations.
The following SKUs represent verified, commonly stocked modules within the GE IS215 series, classified by functional category. Each module is compatible with the Mark VIe control system unless otherwise noted.

IS215 series modules present specific test challenges due to their multi-layer backplane connectors, high-speed IONet Ethernet PHY circuits, and TMR voting logic. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all IS215 units prior to shipment: (1) Visual inspection of PCB, connector pins, and component condition under 10x magnification; (2) Powered bench test using a Mark VIe-compatible rack with GE Toolbox software to verify module recognition, firmware version, and I/O channel continuity; (3) IONet communication validation confirming packet integrity and latency within GE specification; (4) Thermal soak at 55°C for 4 hours to screen latent component failures; (5) Final functional test of all I/O channels against datasheet specifications. Test records are retained for 5 years and available upon request. Units that do not pass all stages are quarantined and not offered for sale.
