Technical Dossier
The Honeywell MLF Series represents a structured family of I/O and control modules deployed within Honeywell's distributed control system (DCS) infrastructure. These modules have established a significant installed base across global heavy industries including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power generation facilities, offshore platforms, and large-scale chemical processing plants. The MLF architecture is designed for high-density signal termination and deterministic scan-cycle performance, making it a standard reference in long-lifecycle plant automation environments where replacement continuity is operationally critical.
The MLF Series was introduced as part of Honeywell's modular field I/O strategy, designed to interface with the Experion PKS and legacy TDC 3000 / PlantScape control platforms. Early MLF modules used parallel backplane communication with fixed-address slot assignment, requiring manual DIP-switch configuration for node identification. Subsequent hardware revisions introduced auto-addressing via the FTA (Field Termination Assembly) bus, reducing commissioning time and eliminating address conflicts in multi-drop configurations.
As Honeywell transitioned its DCS portfolio toward the Experion PKS C300 and LEAP architecture, the MLF Series entered a mature/end-of-active-production phase. Honeywell no longer manufactures new MLF units under standard commercial supply agreements; however, the installed base remains active at thousands of sites globally. Replacement modules are sourced exclusively through authorized distributors, certified repair centers, and specialist spare-parts suppliers. Compatibility between MLF hardware revisions and current Experion firmware versions requires careful cross-referencing of the module's hardware revision stamp against the applicable Honeywell System Release Notes (SRN).

Communication & Specialty Modules
The MLF Series has entered end-of-active-manufacturing status. Honeywell's standard commercial supply chain no longer fulfills new-build orders for most MLF part numbers. For plant operators running Experion PKS or TDC 3000 systems with MLF I/O infrastructure, unplanned module failure creates a critical sourcing gap that cannot be resolved through standard procurement channels.
DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory program for MLF Series lifecycle support. Stock is sourced from decommissioned plant assets, certified refurbishment programs, and long-term storage holdings. Each unit is cataloged by part number, hardware revision, and firmware compatibility level. DriveKNMS provides documentation traceability for all MLF modules supplied, including original Honeywell part labels, revision markings, and test records. For sites requiring long-term maintenance agreements (LTMAs) covering MLF module availability over a 5–10 year horizon, DriveKNMS offers reserved-stock contracts with guaranteed response SLAs.
MLF Series modules incorporate a proprietary backplane bus protocol that requires functional validation beyond standard power-on self-test (POST). DriveKNMS applies a multi-stage test protocol to all MLF units prior to dispatch. Analog input modules (MLF-AD08A, MLF-AD16A, MLF-TC08A, MLF-RTD08A) are subjected to full-range signal injection across all channels using calibrated current/voltage sources, with output linearity verified against Honeywell's published accuracy specifications. Digital I/O modules are tested under simulated field load conditions to verify channel isolation integrity and output drive capacity. Communication modules (MLF-CM01A) are validated on a live Fieldbus segment to confirm segment initialization, device registration, and cyclic data exchange. All modules are burned-in for a minimum of 24 hours under thermal cycling conditions before final inspection. Test records are retained and supplied with each shipment on request.
