Technical Dossier
The Hirschmann MIM105 series switching mode power supply (SMPS) modules are deployed across heavy industrial infrastructure worldwide, including petrochemical plants, nuclear power stations, offshore platforms, and oil refineries. Manufactured in Germany to IEC and EN standards, these units serve as the primary DC power backbone for Hirschmann's rail-mount and panel-mount automation architectures. Their wide-input AC/DC tolerance and regulated 24 VDC output make them a standard specification in process control cabinets where supply quality directly affects PLC and DCS uptime. The MIM105 designation covers a family of compact DIN-rail switching regulators engineered for continuous-duty industrial environments with ambient temperatures up to 60 °C and protection ratings suitable for control room and field enclosure installation.
The MIM105 product line emerged from Hirschmann's broader MIM (Modular Industrial Module) platform, which was developed to standardize power distribution across its rail-mount control system portfolio. Early variants of the series used linear regulation topologies before transitioning to switch-mode designs that significantly reduced heat dissipation and improved efficiency ratings above 85%. The 80026-096-01 base variant established the core electrical specification: 100–240 VAC wide-range input, 24 VDC / 5 A regulated output, and integrated short-circuit protection with automatic restart. The -R suffix revision (80026-096-01-R) introduced revised EMC filtering to comply with updated EN 55011 Class B limits, making it compatible with installations subject to stricter electromagnetic interference regulations in the EU and export markets. The MIM105-Q6949 variant designation reflects a customer-specific or batch qualification code used in controlled procurement environments such as nuclear and defense-adjacent facilities. Compatibility across MIM105 sub-variants is generally maintained at the mechanical and electrical interface level, though firmware-dependent systems should verify revision compatibility before substitution. As the broader Hirschmann MIM platform has entered its mature/end-of-active-production phase, long-term maintenance support and new-old-stock (NOS) sourcing have become the primary procurement strategy for installed base operators.

Switching Mode Power Supply Modules
Associated Interface & Distribution Modules
MIM105 units processed through DriveKNMS undergo a structured incoming inspection and functional test protocol specific to switching mode power supply modules. Each unit is subjected to: AC input range verification across 100–240 VAC at both frequency limits (47 Hz and 63 Hz); DC output load regulation test at 0%, 50%, and 100% rated load; output ripple and noise measurement per EN 61204-3; short-circuit protection activation and auto-restart cycle verification; thermal stress soak at 50 °C ambient for a minimum of 2 hours under full load; and visual inspection of bus connectors, DIN-rail clip integrity, and terminal block torque. Units with conformal coating (80026-096-06 variant) are additionally inspected under UV light for coating coverage continuity. All test data is logged per serial number and retained for a minimum of 5 years. Units that do not meet original Hirschmann output specifications are quarantined and not offered for resale.
