Technical Dossier
The ProSoft Technology MVI69 Series is a purpose-built family of communication interface modules designed for integration with Allen-Bradley CompactLogix and MicroLogix 1500 programmable logic controllers. Deployed across global heavy industry sectors — including petrochemical refineries, offshore platforms, nuclear auxiliary systems, pulp and paper mills, and water treatment infrastructure — the MVI69 platform provides protocol bridging between legacy fieldbus networks and modern Logix-based control architectures. Its compact form factor and direct backplane mounting make it the standard choice for brownfield retrofit projects where rack space is constrained and protocol diversity is high. Installed base spans North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, with documented deployments in facilities operated by major EPC contractors and national energy utilities.
The MVI69 platform was introduced as a successor to the MVI46 (SLC 500) and MVI56 (ControlLogix) families, targeting the mid-range CompactLogix segment. First-generation modules used a serial-only backplane interface with fixed block-transfer sizes. Subsequent hardware revisions introduced expanded memory buffers, configurable block sizes, and support for multi-port simultaneous protocol operation. The architecture relies on an onboard processor that handles all protocol stack execution independently of the host PLC, offloading communication overhead from the CompactLogix CPU. Configuration is managed via ProSoft Configuration Builder (PCB) software, which replaced the earlier ProSoft Explorer utility. Compatibility spans CompactLogix L1x through L4x processors and MicroLogix 1500 Series B and C. Modules are not forward-compatible with ControlLogix (MVI56 family) or Compact GuardLogix without hardware substitution. End-of-life announcements for select MVI69 variants have been issued; ProSoft continues to provide firmware maintenance and replacement unit supply through authorized distributors and third-party MRO channels.
The following SKUs represent verified, commercially documented members of the MVI69 series. Classified by protocol and function:
Serial & Multi-Protocol Communication
MVI69 modules incorporate a proprietary backplane communication bus that requires protocol-level validation beyond standard power-on testing. DriveKNMS applies a structured test sequence to all MVI69 units prior to dispatch. Each module is bench-tested using a CompactLogix L3x test rack with the corresponding RSLogix 5000 / Studio 5000 project loaded. Backplane data transfer integrity is verified by executing live block-transfer read/write cycles and confirming register map accuracy against the module's configuration file. For communication-specific models (e.g., MVI69-PDPMV1, MVI69-MNET), protocol traffic is generated using a hardware simulator to confirm master/slave handshake, error-code handling, and timeout recovery behavior. Firmware version is recorded and cross-referenced against ProSoft's published compatibility matrix for the target CompactLogix processor revision. Units that fail any stage of the test sequence are quarantined and not returned to inventory.
