Technical Dossier
The EPRO MMG 1070 series is a family of eddy current displacement sensors and proximity transducers manufactured by EPRO GmbH (now part of Baker Hughes Condition Monitoring). These sensors are deployed globally in heavy industrial environments including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power stations, offshore platforms, and rotating machinery protection systems. The MMG 1070 series operates on the non-contact eddy current measurement principle, providing continuous, high-resolution displacement and vibration data for shaft monitoring, axial position measurement, and radial vibration analysis on turbines, compressors, pumps, and generators. Their robust construction and compatibility with EPRO's PR 6xxx series signal conditioning electronics have made them a standard reference in ISO 10816 and API 670 compliant machinery protection systems worldwide.
The MMG 1070 series was developed as part of EPRO's second-generation eddy current transducer platform, succeeding earlier PR 9000-series proximity probes. The core architecture is a two-wire coaxial probe system: the MMG 1070 sensor head generates a high-frequency electromagnetic field; a matched extension cable (typically PR 6422 or PR 6424 series) transmits the signal to a dedicated driver/oscillator module (PR 6423 or PR 6424 series). This three-component system — probe, cable, driver — must be calibrated as a matched set to maintain measurement linearity within ±0.5% of full scale.
Early MMG 1070 variants used a fixed 5 mm nominal sensing range with a 4 mm diameter tip. Subsequent revisions introduced the /04TS designation, indicating a 4 mm tip diameter with a standard 5 mm linear range, optimized for shaft diameters between 25 mm and 100 mm. Later variants extended the range to 8 mm and 14 mm tip configurations for larger shaft applications. The series reached end-of-active-production status circa 2015, with EPRO transitioning customers toward the PR 6424 and CON 041 series. However, installed base volumes in legacy DCS and machinery protection systems (particularly Bently Nevada 3300 and EPRO MMS 6000 racks) ensure continued demand for MMG 1070 replacement parts through at least 2035.
The following SKUs represent the verified MMG 1070 series product range. Each unit is a non-contact eddy current proximity probe or associated system component.

MMG 1070/14TS/L500: 14 mm tip, 500 mm cable, for large turbine bearing pedestals.
The MMG 1070 series entered end-of-active-production status approximately 2015. EPRO GmbH (Baker Hughes) no longer manufactures new units, and authorized distributor stock has been progressively depleted. DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of new-old-stock (NOS), refurbished, and functionally equivalent MMG 1070 units sourced through verified industrial surplus channels. All units are individually serialized and traceable. DriveKNMS provides matched probe-cable-driver sets for customers requiring calibrated system replacements, eliminating the need for on-site recalibration. For plants operating EPRO MMS 6000, Bently Nevada 3300, or equivalent API 670 machinery protection racks, DriveKNMS can supply direct drop-in replacements with documented calibration certificates. Long-term maintenance contracts and consignment stock programs are available for refineries and power stations with large MMG 1070 installed bases.
Each MMG 1070 unit processed by DriveKNMS undergoes a structured verification protocol specific to eddy current transducer systems. Static sensitivity verification is performed using a calibrated aluminum target plate on a precision micrometer stage, measuring output voltage linearity across the full nominal range (typically -24 VDC supply, 200 mV/mil or 7.87 V/mm sensitivity). Dynamic response testing confirms frequency response flatness from DC to 10 kHz. Coaxial cable impedance and insulation resistance are measured to verify signal integrity. Connector condition (standard BNC or MIL-C-26482 per variant) is inspected and reconditioned as required. Units are matched against their original calibration curves where documentation is available. All test data is archived and supplied with each shipment.
