Technical Dossier
The OMRON S82K series is a line of compact, DIN-rail-mountable switching power supply units engineered for continuous-duty industrial environments. Deployed across chemical processing plants, petroleum refineries, nuclear facility auxiliary systems, and heavy manufacturing lines globally, the S82K series occupies a critical position in 24 VDC and 12 VDC control panel infrastructure. Its compact form factor, wide input voltage tolerance (85–264 VAC universal input on most models), and UL/CE/cUL certification make it a default specification in panel builds across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. The series interfaces directly with OMRON CJ-series, CS-series, and CP-series PLCs as well as third-party DCS marshalling cabinets, functioning as the primary regulated DC bus for I/O modules, relay drivers, and HMI backplanes.
The S82K series was introduced as a successor to OMRON's earlier S82 and S82J families, consolidating output wattage tiers into a rationalized product line spanning 3 W to 120 W. Early S82K variants (pre-2005) used analog PWM controllers with discrete component topologies, limiting hold-up time and efficiency to approximately 75–80%. Mid-generation revisions introduced synchronous rectification and improved EMI filtering to meet EN 55022 Class B requirements without external line filters — a significant integration advantage for space-constrained panels.
Later production runs incorporated active power factor correction (PFC) on models above 30 W output, bringing power factor to ≥0.95 and enabling compliance with IEC 61000-3-2 harmonic current limits. This architectural shift was critical for installations in European markets post-2006. The S82K series is now classified as a mature/end-of-life product line in OMRON's current catalog. OMRON has transitioned new designs toward the S8VK-G and S8VK-C series. However, the installed base of S82K units in legacy DCS and relay logic panels remains substantial, and replacement demand for maintenance and emergency repair continues at high volume. DriveKNMS maintains dedicated stock and sourcing channels for the full S82K range to support long-term asset maintenance programs.
The following SKUs represent the verified production range of the OMRON S82K series, classified by output wattage and voltage:
S82K-00305: 3 W, 5 VDC/0.6 A output, ultra-compact single-output PSU for low-power sensor loops.
S82K-00312: 3 W, 12 VDC/0.25 A output, DIN-rail mount, for relay coil and signal conditioning circuits.
S82K-00324: 3 W, 24 VDC/0.13 A output, minimal footprint auxiliary supply for discrete I/O bias.
S82K-01505: 15 W, 5 VDC/3 A output, single-output, suitable for logic board and encoder power.
S82K-01512: 15 W, 12 VDC/1.3 A output, single-output, standard panel auxiliary rail supply.
S82K-01524: 15 W, 24 VDC/0.65 A output, single-output, common in OMRON CJ1 I/O expansion panels.
S82K-03005: 30 W, 5 VDC/6 A output, higher-current 5 V bus for multi-board logic systems.
S82K-03012: 30 W, 12 VDC/2.5 A output, single-output, used in motor drive auxiliary circuits.
S82K-03024: 30 W, 24 VDC/1.3 A output, DIN-rail, universal AC input, standard 24 V control bus supply — the most widely deployed model in the S82K range.
S82K-05024: 50 W, 24 VDC/2.1 A output, higher-capacity 24 V supply for larger I/O marshalling panels.
S82K-07524: 75 W, 24 VDC/3.2 A output, suitable for distributed I/O nodes with high channel density.
S82K-10024: 100 W, 24 VDC/4.2 A output, high-capacity single-output for large relay panels and solenoid valve banks.
S82K-12024: 120 W, 24 VDC/5 A output, maximum wattage in the S82K range, used in main control panel 24 V bus applications.
S82K-01548: 15 W, 48 VDC/0.32 A output, for telecom-grade relay and SCADA RTU auxiliary power.
S82K-03048: 30 W, 48 VDC/0.65 A output, 48 V bus supply for communication equipment in industrial enclosures.
As the S82K series has entered end-of-life status in OMRON's active catalog, authorized distributor stock has progressively depleted. DriveKNMS operates a dedicated procurement channel for obsolete and long-lead OMRON power supply modules. Our sourcing network spans manufacturer-authorized excess inventory, decommissioned plant asset recovery, and vetted secondary market channels across Japan, Germany, and the United States.
For S82K models with confirmed production discontinuation — including the S82K-00305, S82K-01548, and S82K-03048 — DriveKNMS provides lifecycle extension support including cross-reference analysis to compatible S8VK-series replacements where direct substitution is feasible, and original S82K units where form-fit-function equivalence is required by site maintenance standards. All sourced units are accompanied by full traceability documentation.
Each S82K unit processed by DriveKNMS undergoes a structured inspection and functional verification protocol. Input stage testing covers inrush current behavior, input voltage range compliance (85–264 VAC), and fuse/MOV integrity. Output stage verification includes DC output voltage accuracy (±1% of rated output), ripple and noise measurement per OMRON specification (≤120 mVp-p on 24 V models), and load regulation testing at 25%, 50%, and 100% of rated output current. Thermal performance is validated under full-load conditions with ambient temperature profiling. Units exhibiting output voltage drift, excessive ripple, or abnormal thermal behavior are quarantined and not returned to stock. Capacitor ESR measurement is performed on all electrolytic bulk capacitors as a standard aging indicator, given the S82K's installed base age profile. Each unit is issued a test record prior to shipment.
