Technical Dossier
The IAI (Intelligent Actuator Inc.) RCS-C series represents a mature generation of dedicated servo controller systems engineered for single-axis and multi-axis electric actuator control in heavy industrial environments. Deployed across chemical processing plants, semiconductor fabrication facilities, automotive assembly lines, and precision manufacturing cells, the RCS-C platform has accumulated a substantial global installed base since its introduction. Its architecture is built around a compact DIN-rail-mountable controller body paired with a modular I/O and communication expansion framework, enabling integration into both standalone machine control and distributed PLC-supervised production lines. The series supports IAI's proprietary ROBO Cylinder actuator family and is compatible with standard RS-232C and RS-485 serial communication protocols, making it a common interface target for legacy SCADA and HMI systems still operating in refinery and process automation environments.
The RCS-C controller line was developed as a successor to IAI's earlier PCON and SCON single-axis controller families, consolidating position data storage, I/O interfacing, and motor drive functions into a single enclosure. Early RCS-C units operated exclusively via 24 VDC I/O point-to-point wiring with position table programming through a dedicated teaching pendant (CON-T or CON-PB). Subsequent firmware revisions introduced expanded position table capacity (from 64 to 512 points), enhanced acceleration/deceleration profile control, and optional fieldbus gateway modules supporting DeviceNet and CC-Link. The SM (Servo Motor) power supply module variants — including the RCS-C-SM-1-100-1-P — were introduced to standardize the AC input power conditioning stage, separating motor drive power from logic supply power for improved noise immunity in high-cycle applications. As the RCS-C series has entered its end-of-production lifecycle, IAI has positioned the PCON-CFA and ACON-CX series as functional replacements; however, direct mechanical and electrical substitution is not always feasible without actuator re-parameterization, making original RCS-C spare parts the preferred solution for installed-base maintenance.
The following SKUs represent verified components within the IAI RCS-C controller ecosystem, classified by functional category. Each entry reflects a discrete hardware module with a defined role in the control architecture.

The RCS-C series has been formally discontinued by IAI Corporation, with last-time-buy windows closed for most module variants. OEM replacement stock is no longer available through standard IAI distribution channels. DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of tested RCS-C modules — including power supply variants such as the RCS-C-SM-1-100-1-P — sourced through controlled secondary market channels and decommissioned equipment recovery. All units are subject to pre-sale functional verification. For facilities operating RCS-C-based actuator systems beyond their original design life, DriveKNMS provides lifecycle extension support including cross-reference analysis to identify compatible substitute modules where direct replacements are unavailable, and technical documentation to support re-parameterization when transitioning to PCON or ACON series controllers. Customers requiring long-term maintenance agreements for multi-axis RCS-C installations are encouraged to contact the procurement team directly to discuss consignment stock arrangements.
RCS-C modules present specific test challenges due to their integrated servo drive and logic control architecture. DriveKNMS applies a structured verification protocol to all RCS-C units prior to dispatch. Power supply modules (SM variants) are bench-tested under resistive load at rated output current for a minimum 30-minute burn-in period, with output voltage ripple measured at both no-load and full-load conditions. Controller (CTL) modules are verified by executing a complete position table write-read cycle via RS-232C, confirming non-volatile memory integrity. I/O modules are tested point-by-point using a dedicated breakout fixture to confirm correct sink/source switching behavior and isolation resistance. Fieldbus adapter modules (DN, CCL, PRF, EIP) are connected to a live network segment and verified for correct node address recognition and cyclic data exchange. All test results are logged against the unit serial number and retained for traceability.
