Technical Dossier
The Honeywell C300 Controller is the primary process controller within the Experion PKS (Process Knowledge System) distributed control system architecture. Deployed across global heavy industry — including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power facilities, LNG terminals, and continuous chemical manufacturing plants — the C300 platform represents one of the most widely installed DCS controller families in operation today. Its modular I/O architecture, redundancy support, and FTE (Fault Tolerant Ethernet) backbone make it a standard reference design for safety-critical process automation. Installed base spans facilities operated by major energy and chemical producers across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific.
The C300 was introduced as part of Honeywell's Experion PKS platform in the early 2000s, succeeding the TDC 3000 and PlantScape systems. Early C300 deployments used Series A I/O modules with CIOM-A (C300 I/O Module) backplane communication. Subsequent hardware revisions introduced Series B and Series C modules with enhanced diagnostics, expanded channel density, and improved EMI tolerance.
The C300 communicates with field I/O via CHARM (Characterization Module) technology in newer Experion deployments, but legacy CIOM-based I/O remains the dominant installed architecture in brownfield sites. Compatibility between Series A and Series B modules requires firmware alignment and backplane revision verification. The C300 controller itself (CC-PCF901) operates on a dual-redundant pair configuration, with each controller node supporting up to 40 CIOM-A I/O links. Migration paths from TDC 3000 HPM modules to C300 I/O are documented under Honeywell's Universal I/O (UIO) migration framework. As of 2024, the C300 platform is in its mature/sustained phase — Honeywell continues to supply spare parts and firmware updates, but new feature development is concentrated on the Experion PKS Highly Integrated Virtual Environment (HIVE) architecture.

DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory program for Honeywell C300 modules across all hardware series revisions. For brownfield facilities operating Series A and Series B I/O modules — many of which have been discontinued from Honeywell's standard catalog — DriveKNMS provides lifecycle extension sourcing through verified secondary market channels. Each unit is cross-referenced against the original Honeywell part number and firmware revision before dispatch.
Common sourcing scenarios handled by DriveKNMS include: emergency replacement of failed CIOM-A digital input/output modules during unplanned shutdowns; procurement of matched redundant controller pairs (CC-PCF901) for sites requiring exact firmware version alignment; and bulk procurement for scheduled turnaround maintenance at refineries and chemical plants. Lead times for in-stock C300 modules are typically 1–5 business days. For obsolete or low-availability part numbers, DriveKNMS provides sourcing timelines upon inquiry.
C300 modules received by DriveKNMS undergo a structured inspection and functional verification process prior to dispatch. Each module is visually inspected for backplane connector integrity, capacitor condition, and PCB contamination. CIOM-A communication modules are bench-tested using a dedicated Experion PKS test rack to verify FTE link establishment, I/O channel response, and diagnostic register output. Analog input modules (HART-enabled variants) are calibrated against a reference signal source across the full 4–20 mA range. Digital I/O modules are cycled through all 32 channels under load to confirm switching integrity. Modules that fail any test stage are quarantined and not returned to inventory. All tested units ship with a DriveKNMS inspection record documenting test date, technician ID, and pass criteria.
