Technical Dossier
The Allen-Bradley CompactLogix 1769 series is a mid-range programmable logic controller (PLC) platform developed by Rockwell Automation. It occupies a defined position between the MicroLogix and ControlLogix families in the Rockwell automation hierarchy. The 1769 series is deployed across a broad spectrum of heavy industrial environments including petrochemical refineries, nuclear auxiliary systems, pulp and paper mills, automotive assembly lines, and water treatment facilities. Its compact form factor, combined with EtherNet/IP native connectivity and IEC 61131-3 programming compliance, has made it a standard specification item in distributed control system (DCS) architectures globally.
The 1769-L30ER specifically is a 1 MB user memory EtherNet/IP controller with dual EtherNet/IP ports, supporting Device Level Ring (DLR) topology for high-availability network configurations. It supports up to 16 local 1769 I/O modules and is compatible with Studio 5000 Logix Designer v21 and later.
The CompactLogix platform was introduced in the early 2000s as Rockwell Automation's response to demand for a scalable, rack-based controller that did not require the full infrastructure of the ControlLogix 1756 chassis. The original L20, L30, and L40 controllers used serial and DeviceNet communication. The transition to EtherNet/IP-native controllers (the "ER" suffix generation) marked a significant architectural shift, enabling integration with modern SCADA and MES layers without protocol conversion gateways.
Key architectural milestones:
The 1769 series is now in the mature/end-of-life transition phase. Rockwell Automation has announced migration paths to the 5380 platform. However, installed base volumes in legacy facilities ensure continued demand for 1769 spare parts and replacement modules through at least 2035.

Q: How are RFQ terms confirmed?
A: Quantity, required condition, documentation needs, destination and sourcing route are confirmed during RFQ review before quotation.
The 1769 series presents specific test challenges due to its integrated backplane bus architecture and the tight coupling between the controller's local I/O bus and the EtherNet/IP communication stack. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all 1769 modules prior to dispatch:
