Technical Dossier
The ABB AC500 series is a modular programmable logic controller (PLC) platform deployed across heavy industrial sectors including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power auxiliary systems, offshore oil & gas platforms, and large-scale water treatment facilities. With installations spanning more than 80 countries, the AC500 platform represents one of ABB's highest-volume automation controller families. The 200-PSMG is a dedicated power supply module within this ecosystem, providing regulated DC power to the CPU and I/O backplane under demanding continuous-duty conditions.
The AC500 platform was introduced by ABB in the early 2000s as a successor to the CS31 and Advant Controller 31 (AC31) families. The architecture underwent three major generational transitions:
Generation 1 (AC500 V1, ~2003–2008): Initial modular design based on the PM571/PM581 CPU modules. Communication was limited to PROFIBUS-DP and Modbus RTU. Power supply modules in this generation used a proprietary backplane bus with limited hot-swap capability.
Generation 2 (AC500 V2, ~2009–2016): Introduced the PM590/PM591/PM592/PM595 CPU range with expanded memory and Ethernet-based fieldbus support (PROFINET, EtherNet/IP). The 200-series power supply modules, including the 200-PSMG, were standardized in this generation to support the expanded I/O backplane configurations (TB511, TB521, TB541).
Generation 3 (AC500 V3 / AC500-eCo / AC500-S, ~2017–present): Introduced safety-rated variants (AC500-S, TÜV-certified SIL 3 / PLe), extended temperature range modules (AC500-XC for -40°C to +70°C), and IEC 61131-3 programming via Automation Builder 2.x. Legacy 200-series power supply modules retain backward compatibility with V2 backplanes but are not forward-compatible with the new TB560/TB580 backplane form factor introduced in V3.
Compatibility note: The 200-PSMG is designed for use with TB511-ETH, TB521-ETH, and TB541 terminal base units. It is not compatible with the AC500-eCo compact CPU series (PM554/PM556) which use integrated power supply circuits.

Q: How are RFQ terms confirmed?
A: Quantity, required condition, documentation needs, destination and sourcing route are confirmed during RFQ review before quotation.
AC500 modules, particularly power supply and communication adapter variants, require specialized test procedures due to their backplane bus architecture and multi-voltage internal circuitry. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all AC500 inventory:
