Technical Dossier
The ABB APOW series comprises the internal power supply board assemblies designed exclusively for ABB's ACS880 industrial drive platform. ACS880 drives are deployed at scale across global heavy industry sectors — petrochemical refineries, nuclear auxiliary systems, offshore platforms, pulp and paper mills, and large-scale water treatment infrastructure. The APOW board is a critical sub-assembly: it provides regulated DC power rails to the control electronics, gate driver circuits, and communication interfaces within the drive. Failure of an APOW module results in complete drive shutdown, making rapid access to verified spare units a direct operational continuity requirement.
ABB's ACS880 platform has achieved one of the highest installed base densities of any modern industrial drive family globally. Consequently, the APOW series represents one of the most frequently sourced internal spare components in the industrial automation aftermarket. DriveKNMS maintains dedicated stock of both current-production and end-of-life APOW variants to support this installed base.
The APOW series was introduced alongside the ACS880 single drive platform, which ABB launched to replace the earlier ACS800 family. The ACS800 platform used a different internal power architecture (AINT, APBU boards), and the transition to ACS880 brought a consolidated power supply design under the APOW designation.
Early APOW variants (APOW-01, APOW-01C) were designed for the ACS880-01 and ACS880-04 frame sizes, covering the lower power range. As the ACS880 platform expanded into higher frame sizes and multi-drive cabinet configurations, ABB introduced the APOW-11 and APOW-11C variants to address the increased power demands of larger control board assemblies and expanded I/O configurations.
The suffix "C" in APOW-11C denotes a revised hardware revision with enhanced EMC filtering and improved thermal management compared to the base APOW-11. Both variants share the same mounting footprint and connector pinout, allowing field substitution in most configurations, subject to firmware compatibility verification.
As the ACS880 platform matures, earlier APOW revisions are progressively reaching end-of-production status. ABB's standard lifecycle policy transitions components through Active, Classic, and Obsolete phases. APOW units in the Classic and Obsolete phases remain fully functional in installed drives but are no longer manufactured, making aftermarket sourcing the primary procurement channel for maintenance operations.
The following SKUs represent the documented APOW series range across ACS880 drive frame sizes and configurations.

Associated Control & Interface Boards (ACS880 Platform)
DriveKNMS operates as a specialist supplier for ABB ACS880 internal spare components, with particular focus on APOW series boards that have transitioned out of ABB's active production schedule. The operational reality for plant maintenance teams is that ACS880 drives installed in the 2012–2018 period are now entering their first major overhaul cycle, and APOW boards — subject to electrolytic capacitor aging and thermal cycling fatigue — are among the first internal components to require replacement.
DriveKNMS sources APOW units through the following channels: new-old-stock (NOS) from authorized distributor excess inventory, professionally refurbished units with full component-level inspection and capacitor replacement, and tested-pulls from decommissioned drives with documented operating hours. All units are catalogued by part number, hardware revision suffix, and firmware compatibility range prior to dispatch.
For plant operators managing multi-year maintenance contracts on ACS880 installations, DriveKNMS offers consignment stock arrangements and priority reservation for critical APOW variants. This is particularly relevant for offshore and remote installations where lead time for standard procurement channels is operationally unacceptable.
APOW boards present specific test challenges due to their role as the primary power source for all other ACS880 control electronics. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all APOW units prior to dispatch:
