The CI854 module was introduced as part of ABB's AC 800M platform, which succeeded the earlier Advant OCS / MOD 300 and Master series controllers. The original CI854 (3BSE018928R1) provided a single PROFIBUS-DP master port operating at up to 12 Mbit/s, supporting up to 125 slave addresses per segment. The CI854A (3BSE026055R1) introduced hardware revisions improving EMC robustness and extended temperature tolerance. The CI854B (3BSE051909R1) added firmware-level support for redundant PROFIBUS master operation when paired with a second CI854B on the same controller module position, a critical feature for SIL-rated loops.
