Technical Dossier
The ABB RAIO-01 (64606841) is an analog I/O extension module designed for integration with ABB ACS800 series variable frequency drives. It extends the drive's native analog signal handling capacity, enabling precise process control in high-demand industrial environments including petrochemical refineries, nuclear auxiliary systems, pulp and paper mills, and offshore platform motor control centers. The RAIO-01 is mounted directly onto the drive's RMIO control board via a dedicated slot, communicating over ABB's internal drive bus without external wiring overhead. Its compact DIN-rail-compatible form factor and wide input voltage tolerance make it a standard fitment in multi-drive cabinet installations across global heavy industry.
The RAIO-01 belongs to ABB's RMIO-era optional module ecosystem, introduced alongside the ACS800 platform in the late 1990s. Early ACS800 installations relied on the base RMIO-01C/11C control boards for analog I/O, which provided a limited number of differential analog inputs and outputs. As process automation requirements grew — particularly in DCS-integrated environments requiring 4–20 mA loop feedback from multiple field instruments — ABB released the RAIO-01 as a plug-in expansion to double the available analog channel count without requiring a larger drive frame or external I/O marshalling cabinet.
The module uses a 15-pin D-sub connector interface and communicates with the RMIO board via a proprietary serial link. It supports both voltage (0–10 V, ±10 V) and current (0–20 mA, 4–20 mA) signal modes, selectable per channel via internal DIP switches. This architecture remained unchanged through the ACS800's production lifecycle, ensuring backward compatibility across firmware revisions from 3.x through 7.x. With the ACS800 platform now in its end-of-active-production phase (superseded by the ACS880), the RAIO-01 has transitioned into a long-term spare parts category. No direct functional equivalent exists in the ACS880 platform, which uses a different modular I/O architecture (AIAO-01, ADIO-01 series), making RAIO-01 availability critical for installed-base maintenance.
The following SKUs represent the RAIO-01 module and its closely associated ABB ACS800 optional I/O and adapter modules. All are verified components within the ABB ACS800 optional module ecosystem:

ABB formally transitioned the ACS800 platform to limited manufacturing support status, with the RAIO-01 (64606841) no longer available through standard ABB distribution channels in most regions. DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of new-surplus, refurbished, and tested-used RAIO-01 modules sourced from decommissioned drive cabinets, OEM overstock, and controlled dismantling of retired industrial installations.
Each RAIO-01 module processed by DriveKNMS undergoes a structured bench test protocol before dispatch. The module is seated into a reference ACS800 drive test rig running RMIO firmware 7.x. Analog input channels are verified across the full signal range (0–10 V, 4–20 mA) using a calibrated signal generator, with output accuracy confirmed against a precision multimeter to ±0.1% of full scale. Digital communication integrity between the RAIO-01 and RMIO board is verified via drive parameter read-back (parameter group 11/12 in ACS800 standard application). The 15-pin D-sub connector is inspected for pin straightness, gold plating integrity, and locking latch function. Boards exhibiting capacitor ESR drift, corroded solder joints, or out-of-tolerance analog offset are either reconditioned or rejected. All passed units are anti-static bagged, labeled with test date and technician ID, and shipped in ESD-safe packaging.
