The ABB SPGU240A1 was designed as an integral power supply module within the SPGU series, deployed extensively in ABB MasterPiece 200 and MasterPiece 300 distributed control systems, as well as Advant Controller AC 400 installations. These platforms were the backbone of process automation in petrochemical, pulp and paper, power generation, and heavy manufacturing facilities throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
ABB formally discontinued support and manufacturing for this module series. Facilities still operating on MasterPiece or early Advant hardware face a structural problem: the control logic, operator interfaces, field wiring, and process tuning accumulated over decades cannot be transferred to a new platform without a full engineering project. A single failed power supply card, if unaddressed, can force exactly that outcome.
