The Evolution of ZGAD Architecture

The ZGAD series was developed as part of ABB's modular drive board ecosystem, designed to interface directly with IGBT power modules in medium-voltage and low-voltage variable frequency drives. Early ZGAD variants were engineered for compatibility with ABB's ACS600 and ACS800 drive families, providing isolated gate-drive signals and hardware-level overcurrent protection. As ABB transitioned its drive platform architecture toward the ACS880 and ACS580 generations, the ZGAD series underwent iterative revisions to support higher switching frequencies, improved EMC shielding, and fiber-optic signal isolation.
