Technical Dossier
The B&R ACOPOS 8V series represents one of the most widely deployed servo drive platforms in global heavy industry. Installed across petrochemical refineries, nuclear power auxiliary systems, offshore platforms, and large-scale chemical processing plants, the 8V series established B&R's position as a tier-1 motion control supplier in Europe, Asia-Pacific, and North America. Its modular architecture — combining single-axis and multi-axis configurations — allowed system integrators to standardize on a single drive family across machines ranging from 1.4 kW to 320 kW continuous output. The series interfaces natively with B&R's Automation Studio engineering environment and the POWERLINK real-time Ethernet fieldbus, making it a cornerstone of B&R's Integrated Machine Control (IMC) philosophy. Installed base density in long-lifecycle industries (refining, pulp & paper, metals) means demand for spare units and replacement modules remains active well beyond the series' commercial production window.
The ACOPOS 8V platform was introduced in the early 2000s as B&R's response to the demand for a unified servo drive architecture compatible with IEC 61131-3 motion function blocks. The first-generation units operated on a CAN-based fieldbus backbone and supported resolver and incremental encoder feedback. With the adoption of POWERLINK (IEC 61158) as B&R's primary real-time network, the 8V series was updated to support cycle times down to 400 µs, enabling synchronous multi-axis coordination without external motion controllers.
The second architectural phase introduced the ACOPOSmulti (8B series) as a successor for new machine designs, while the 8V series continued in production to serve the installed base. Key compatibility considerations include: the 8V series uses X2X Link for I/O expansion and requires B&R's Automation Runtime (AR) for motion kernel execution; firmware versions must be matched to Automation Studio project versions to avoid parameter set incompatibilities; and DC bus linking between 8V units requires matched firmware and hardware revision levels. End-of-life announcements for specific 8V sub-families have been issued by B&R, with recommended migration paths to the ACOPOSmulti and ACOPOStrak platforms for new designs.
The following SKUs represent verified, commonly stocked models within the B&R ACOPOS 8V servo drive family. Units are classified by axis count and continuous output current rating.

DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory program for B&R ACOPOS 8V series units that have reached end-of-availability (EOA) status through B&R's official distribution channel. For facilities operating legacy 8V installations — particularly in industries where control system replacement projects carry multi-year lead times and regulatory approval requirements — DriveKNMS provides the following lifecycle extension services:
All sourced units are accompanied by full traceability documentation. DriveKNMS does not supply counterfeit or re-labeled product. Units failing authentication checks are quarantined and not offered for sale.
The ACOPOS 8V series presents specific test challenges due to its integrated POWERLINK communication stack, X2X Link backplane interface, and multi-layer feedback processing circuits. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all 8V units prior to dispatch:
