The Evolution of 1800 Series Architecture

The 1800 Series was introduced as a standardized proximity transducer platform to replace earlier non-interchangeable sensor configurations. Early variants used a two-wire coaxial cable assembly with a fixed-gap calibration requirement, limiting field replaceability. Subsequent revisions introduced the modular extension cable concept, decoupling the probe, extension cable, and driver (oscillator/demodulator) into three independently replaceable components — a design that became the industry standard for machinery monitoring transducers.

The 1800/20 sub-family standardized the 5mm probe tip diameter and 8mm thread configuration, optimizing sensitivity for steel targets at a nominal gap of 1.0 mm (output: -10.0 VDC). The XX designation in the part number encodes the cable length in feet, allowing system integrators to specify exact cable runs without field splicing. The 90-02-00 suffix identifies the connector type, temperature rating, and approval class (standard industrial, -40°C to +177°C, CE/ATEX compliant in applicable variants).
