Technical Dossier
The Bently Nevada 22810 Series Proximity Probes are eddy-current, non-contact displacement transducers deployed across the most demanding continuous-process industries globally — including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power stations, LNG terminals, offshore platforms, and rotating machinery in steel mills. As a core component of the Bently Nevada 3300 and 7200 Series transducer systems, the 22810 probe is engineered to measure radial shaft vibration, axial position, and differential expansion on turbines, compressors, pumps, and motors. The series operates on the principle of eddy-current induction, providing a linear voltage output proportional to the gap between the probe tip and the observed conductive target surface. Its widespread installation base — spanning decades of continuous operation — makes it one of the most referenced spare parts in rotating machinery protection programs worldwide.
The 22810 Series was introduced as part of Bently Nevada's standardized eddy-current probe family, designed to interface directly with the 3300 XL 8mm Extension Cable and the 3300 RAM proximitor/oscillator driver. Early configurations used a fixed-length armored cable with a 5 mm or 8 mm probe tip diameter, terminated in a standard BNC or MIL-spec connector. Over successive product generations, Bently Nevada refined the probe body material (from standard stainless steel to Inconel-tipped variants for high-temperature environments), extended the operating temperature range, and introduced EMI-shielded cable variants for installations near high-voltage switchgear.
The 22810 series is fully compatible with the Bently Nevada 3300 Series proximitor drivers (3300/16, 3300/20, 3300/55) and the 7200 Series drivers. As the broader Bently Nevada product line transitioned toward the System 1 condition monitoring platform and the 3500 Series rack-based machinery protection system, the 22810 probe retained backward compatibility, allowing facilities to upgrade monitoring electronics without replacing installed probe hardware. This architectural continuity is a primary reason the 22810 remains in active service at plants commissioned in the 1980s and 1990s. For facilities operating legacy 3300 Series racks, the 22810 is the only probe family that maintains full electrical compatibility without recalibration of the proximitor gap voltage.
The following SKUs represent the documented 22810 Series product range. Each model is differentiated by cable length, connector type, temperature rating, and probe tip geometry. All models output a standard –24 VDC bias voltage signal when used with a compatible Bently Nevada proximitor driver.

The 22810 Series has entered the mature-to-declining phase of its product lifecycle. Baker Hughes (the current owner of the Bently Nevada brand) has progressively shifted new installations toward the 3300 XL 8mm and the newer 330100 Series probes. As a result, several 22810 configurations — particularly long-cable variants and MIL-spec connector models — are no longer available through standard distribution channels and must be sourced from specialist industrial spare parts suppliers.
The 22810 Proximity Probe is a precision analog transducer. Its performance is defined by three measurable parameters: sensitivity (nominally 7.87 V/mm or 200 mV/mil), linear range (typically 0.25 mm to 2.25 mm gap), and resonant frequency (must exceed the maximum shaft rotational frequency by a factor of at least 10). DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to every 22810 unit processed through its facility:
