Technical Dossier
The Bently Nevada 330905 series comprises the NSv (Non-Standard velocity) proximity probe assemblies, engineered for eddy-current-based shaft displacement and vibration measurement in rotating machinery. These probes are deployed across critical asset monitoring applications in petrochemical refineries, nuclear power stations, offshore platforms, LNG terminals, and heavy industrial compressor trains. The 330905 series interfaces directly with Bently Nevada 3300 XL, 3500, and 7200 series monitoring systems, forming the sensing front-end of a complete machinery protection architecture.
Installed base for the 330905 series spans multiple decades of continuous operation. In facilities where machinery protection systems cannot be taken offline for extended periods—such as baseload power generation and continuous-process chemical plants—the 330905 probe remains the field-replaceable unit of record. Its standardized connector interface and defined cable extension lengths make it a direct drop-in replacement within existing conduit runs without recalibration of the transmitter module, provided the correct extension cable and proximitor are matched.
The 330905 series traces its lineage to Bently Nevada's foundational eddy-current probe technology developed in the 1960s and commercialized through the 3300 monitoring platform. Early-generation probes in this family used a two-wire coaxial construction with a fixed-length integral cable, requiring precise field trimming to match system calibration curves. The introduction of the modular extension cable system—separating the probe body, extension cable, and proximitor driver—allowed standardized probe lengths (5 mm, 8 mm, 11 mm tip-to-target gap ranges) to be combined with variable extension cable runs (0.5 m to 9 m) without altering the system's linear output range.
The transition from the 3300 XL platform to the 3500 series introduced tighter EMI shielding requirements and revised connector torque specifications. 330905 probes manufactured after 2005 carry revised part suffixes (e.g., -RU for Russian-market documentation packages, -CN for China-specific certification variants) that reflect regional compliance documentation rather than functional hardware changes. The core sensing coil geometry and target material specification (AISI 4140 steel reference) remained unchanged across these revisions, preserving backward compatibility with legacy 3300 series proximitor drivers.
By 2015, the 330905 series entered a mature/sustaining lifecycle phase. Bently Nevada (a Baker Hughes company) continues to supply select configurations as service parts, but new machinery designs are directed toward the 330780 and 330900 series with enhanced temperature ratings. For existing installations, the 330905 remains the only certified replacement probe and is not interchangeable with 330780 geometry without recalibration.
The following SKUs represent verified, commonly stocked configurations within the 330905 NSv Proximity Probe series. Each entry reflects a distinct combination of probe length, cable length, connector type, and documentation variant.

DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory program for Bently Nevada 330905 series probes, with particular focus on configurations that have been discontinued from the Baker Hughes standard price list. The following sourcing scenarios are routinely handled:
All sourced units are accompanied by a DriveKNMS inspection report. Units of unknown service history are not shipped without passing the full functional test protocol described below.
The 330905 proximity probe is a passive inductive sensor. Quality verification requires specialized test equipment that replicates the operating conditions of the Bently Nevada proximitor driver circuit. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all 330905 units processed through its facility:
Test records are retained for a minimum of 5 years and are available to customers upon request.
