Bosch Rexroth HNL01 Series Technical Notes
The Evolution of HNL01 Architecture
The HNL01 series was introduced as part of Bosch Rexroth's second-generation IndraDrive infrastructure, succeeding the earlier HNF01 mains filter modules which combined EMC filtering and choke functions in a single housing. The HNL01 design separates the choke function into a dedicated module, allowing system integrators to select choke inductance and current rating independently of the EMC filter specification. Early HNL01 variants (suffix -A-480) were rated for 480 V AC three-phase mains and used laminated silicon-steel core construction. Later variants introduced optimized winding geometry to reduce copper losses at partial load, relevant for variable-speed pump and fan applications where the drive operates below rated current for extended periods. The HNL01 series is compatible with IndraDrive C (HCS), IndraDrive M (HMS/HMD), and DIAX04 (HDS) drive controllers when correctly matched by current rating. Compatibility with successor IndraDrive Mi (KSM/KMS) requires an intermediate HNF01 filter stage. As of 2024, the HNL01 series is classified by Bosch Rexroth as a mature product line with no planned hardware revisions; replacement procurement and lifecycle extension support are the primary supply chain activities.

Quality Control for the HNL01 Range
HNL01 mains choke modules are passive inductive components; failure modes are limited but consequential. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all HNL01 units prior to dispatch: (1) DC winding resistance measurement on all three phases using a four-wire Kelvin bridge, compared against factory reference values to detect shorted turns or open-circuit conditions; (2) inductance measurement at 1 kHz using an LCR meter to verify inductance value is within ±10% of nameplate specification; (3) insulation resistance test at 500 V DC between each winding and the core/frame, minimum acceptance threshold 100 MΩ; (4) visual inspection of core lamination stack for signs of thermal damage, resin cracking, or mechanical deformation from overcurrent events; (5) terminal torque verification to confirm connection integrity. Units that pass all five stages are tagged with a DriveKNMS QC serial number and shipped with a test record. Units that fail any stage are quarantined and not offered for sale.
