The Evolution of VT-VSPD Architecture
Bosch Rexroth's proportional valve amplifier lineage began with fully analog boards in the VT-VSPA and VT-VSPH families, which relied on discrete op-amp circuits for ramp generation and dither injection. These were succeeded in the mid-1990s by the VT-VSPD platform, which introduced a microcontroller-based architecture with EEPROM parameter storage, replacing potentiometer-based tuning with digital parameter assignment via RS-232 or the Rexroth VT-COM interface. The VT-VSPD-1 sub-family targets single-solenoid proportional directional and pressure valves; the VT-VSPD-2 sub-family addresses dual-solenoid configurations. Suffix codes encode supply voltage range (22 = 24 VDC nominal), hardware revision (V0), and feature set (0-0-1 = standard enable, no fieldbus, single channel). Later revisions introduced PROFIBUS-DP and CANopen fieldbus options (suffix -1-0-1 and -2-0-1 respectively), enabling direct integration with Siemens S7 and Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLCs without analog I/O cards. The current generation successor is the Rexroth VT-HACD series, which consolidates amplifier and motion controller functions on a single card with EtherCAT connectivity. However, the VT-VSPD remains the dominant installed base card in pre-2015 hydraulic systems, and direct replacement with VT-HACD requires solenoid driver reconfiguration and PLC program modification, making like-for-like VT-VSPD sparing the preferred maintenance strategy for most end users.
