The B&R 5PC910 is a fanless, panel-integrated industrial PC platform developed by Bernecker & Rainer Industrie-Elektronik GmbH (now part of ABB). It is deployed across continuous-process industries including petrochemical refineries, nuclear auxiliary systems, offshore platforms, and large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing lines. The 5PC910 occupies the mid-to-high tier of B&R's Automation PC product family, positioned between the entry-level 5PC720 and the high-performance 5PC910 SSD variants. Its compact, sealed enclosure design and wide operating temperature tolerance (0–55 °C) make it a standard specification in panel-builder BOMs for SCADA front-end terminals and HMI-integrated control nodes. Installed base estimates across global heavy industry place the 5PC910 family in active service at thousands of sites, many of which are now in long-term maintenance mode requiring verified spare-part sourcing.
The 5PC910 platform was introduced as part of B&R's third-generation Automation PC lineup, succeeding the 5PC600 and 5PC720 families. Early revisions used Intel Celeron M and Core 2 Duo processors paired with the B&R proprietary backplane interface, enabling integration with X20 and X67 I/O systems via the POWERLINK real-time Ethernet protocol. This architecture means that a site running AR version D4.x on a 5PC910.SX02 can migrate to a 5PC910.SX05 without recompiling application logic, provided the hardware configuration table is updated. As of 2024, the 5PC910 series is classified by B&R/ABB as a mature product: still supported under standard service contracts but no longer in active development. New projects are directed toward the 5PC2200 and APC2200 platforms.
