Technical Dossier
The ABB DCS800 is a fully digital DC drive platform engineered for demanding industrial applications including chemical processing plants, nuclear power auxiliary systems, oil refineries, steel rolling mills, and paper machine drives. Rated from 9 A to 5200 A armature current, the DCS800 series replaced the legacy DCS500 and Mentor II platforms and remains one of the most widely deployed DC drive families in global heavy industry. The control board assembly — anchored by part numbers 0YPP110A (3ASD573001A1) and YPK112A (3ASD573001A13) — is the central processing and firing-pulse generation unit of the drive. Its failure directly disables the entire drive, making verified spare availability a critical operational requirement for any site running DCS800 hardware.
ABB introduced the DCS800 platform in the early 2000s as the successor to the DCS500B series. The architecture is built around a 32-bit RISC processor executing ABB's SDCS (Standard Drive Control Software), with a dedicated ASIC for thyristor firing-pulse synchronization. Early hardware revisions (SDCS-CON-2, SDCS-CON-3) used a parallel backplane bus; later revisions migrated to a high-speed serial fieldbus backbone compatible with DDCS (Distributed Drive Control System) fiber-optic links. The 0YPP110A / 3ASD573001A1 board represents the mature A1 hardware revision of the main control assembly, while YPK112A / 3ASD573001A13 designates the A13 revision — an incremental update addressing EMC compliance and firmware flash memory capacity. Both revisions are cross-compatible within the same drive frame size but require matching firmware versions. The DCS800 platform entered its mature/end-of-active-development phase circa 2018; ABB continues to supply spare parts and firmware support under its long-term spare parts commitment, but no new hardware revisions are planned. Sites operating DCS800 drives should maintain a minimum of one control board assembly as a cold spare.
The following SKUs represent verified, commonly stocked components within the ABB DCS800 drive family. Each entry reflects a distinct functional role within the drive architecture.
