The KJ3223X1-EA1 (part number 12P2867X022) is an 8-channel, 4–20 mA analog output module rated for use in Class I, Division 2 hazardous locations. It communicates over the DeltaV I/O bus and supports HART revision 5/6 field device communication on each channel independently. Operating temperature range: 0°C to 60°C. Power consumption: 1.5 W typical. Module dimensions conform to the standard DeltaV S-Series form factor for direct carrier-slot replacement.
The DeltaV S-Series I/O platform was introduced by Fisher-Rosemount (subsequently acquired by Emerson Electric in 1999) as a successor to the earlier RS3 and PROVOX DCS platforms. The KJ3223X1 analog output module was developed as part of the initial S-Series I/O catalog, targeting facilities requiring dense analog output density with integrated HART diagnostics — a capability absent in the predecessor RS3 AO cards.
Early revisions of the KJ3223X1 (suffix -BA1, -CA1) operated under DeltaV firmware versions 5.x–7.x and used a parallel backplane bus architecture. The -EA1 revision introduced enhanced EMI shielding, revised output driver circuitry for improved loop compliance voltage (up to 24 VDC at 20 mA), and compatibility with DeltaV firmware 8.x through 14.x and beyond. The -EA1 revision also introduced extended HART polling capability, enabling simultaneous multi-variable reads from HART 6 field devices.
As DeltaV evolved into the DeltaV Distributed Control System version 13/14 (supporting Electronic Marshalling via CHARM I/O), the KJ3223X1 S-Series modules remained fully supported in legacy S-Series carrier configurations. Facilities running mixed S-Series and CHARM architectures commonly maintain KJ3223X1 modules in service for existing hardwired loops while migrating new loops to CHARMs. The KJ3223X1 series is now in the mature/sustaining phase of its lifecycle; Emerson continues to manufacture and support the -EA1 revision but has not introduced new hardware revisions since approximately 2015.
