Technical Dossier
The Emerson DeltaV distributed control system (DCS) is deployed across the global process industries — including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power generation facilities, LNG terminals, pharmaceutical batch plants, and offshore oil & gas platforms. Since its commercial introduction in the mid-1990s, DeltaV has accumulated an installed base measured in tens of thousands of nodes worldwide. The KJ3242X1-FA1 12P2575X032 H1 Terminal Block is a field interface component within the DeltaV I/O subsystem, providing the physical wiring termination point for FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 segment connections. Its role is critical in any DeltaV node that interfaces with FF-H1 field devices such as transmitters, valve positioners, and flow meters operating on the 31.25 kbit/s H1 bus.
DeltaV was architected from the outset around an open, scalable node-based topology. Generation 1 (1996–2002) introduced the MD Controller with Series 2 I/O cards using the KJ prefix designation. Generation 2 (2002–2010) expanded the I/O catalog with HART-enabled analog cards, redundant power supplies, and the introduction of FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 interface cards — the KJ3242 family belongs to this era. Generation 3 (2010–2018) brought the Electronic Marshalling concept via CHARM (Characterization Module) technology, reducing panel wiring density. Generation 4 (2018–present) introduced the DeltaV Compact Controller S-series and virtualized DeltaV Live HMI.
The KJ3242X1-FA1 terminal block is associated with the KJ3242 FF-H1 Interface Card. While the KJ3242 card itself has transitioned to end-of-active-production status, it remains in service at thousands of sites running DeltaV v11 through v14 systems. Replacement migration paths include the CHARM FF-H1 CIOC, but direct hardware substitution is not possible without engineering rework, making original spare parts essential for brownfield maintenance.
