Technical Dossier
The Emerson DeltaV distributed control system (DCS) is one of the most widely deployed process automation platforms in global heavy industry. Installed across petrochemical refineries, LNG terminals, nuclear power facilities, pharmaceutical manufacturing plants, and pulp & paper mills, the DeltaV architecture has maintained a dominant installed base since its commercial introduction in the mid-1990s. The KJ3243X1-BB2 Profibus DP Interface Card is a critical fieldbus communication module within this ecosystem, enabling deterministic data exchange between the DeltaV controller network and Profibus DP field devices including valve positioners, transmitters, and variable frequency drives.
The DeltaV platform has undergone four major architectural generations since 1996. The original S-series controllers (MD, MD Plus) used a proprietary FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1 and HART communication model. The introduction of the KJ-series modules in the early 2000s expanded fieldbus support to include Profibus DP (via cards such as the KJ3243X1-BB2), DeviceNet, and AS-Interface, reflecting the industry's shift toward open fieldbus standards in brownfield integration projects.
The KJ-series I/O subsystem operates on the DeltaV I/O bus and communicates with the controller via the DeltaV network. Each I/O carrier supports multiple module slots, and the KJ3243X1-BB2 occupies a single slot while providing one Profibus DP master port capable of managing up to 125 slave devices per segment. Subsequent generations introduced redundant fieldbus masters and fiber-optic segment extensions, but the KJ3243X1-BB2 remains the standard non-redundant Profibus master for the majority of installed DeltaV S-series and M-series systems.
As DeltaV systems transition toward the DeltaV v14/v15 software platform, hardware compatibility constraints mean that KJ-series modules remain in active service for the foreseeable future in sites that cannot justify a full I/O migration. This places the KJ3243X1-BB2 firmly in the long-term maintenance category: demand is sustained, OEM production is reduced, and secondary market sourcing becomes the primary procurement channel.
The following SKUs represent the core DeltaV KJ-series and related module range. All models listed are verified DeltaV platform components. Functional categories are assigned based on module architecture.

DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of DeltaV KJ-series modules sourced through authorized secondary market channels. Each unit is subject to pre-shipment functional verification. For the KJ3243X1-BB2 specifically, our sourcing network covers North American, European, and Southeast Asian decommissioning pools, providing consistent availability for emergency and planned maintenance procurement.
DeltaV KJ-series modules incorporate proprietary backplane bus protocols that require functional testing beyond standard power-on verification. DriveKNMS applies the following test procedures to all DeltaV modules prior to shipment:
