EPRO PR6424 Series: Comprehensive Module Range and Technical Overview

The EPRO PR6424 series is a family of eddy current displacement and proximity sensors manufactured by EPRO GmbH (now part of Baker Hughes / Bently Nevada ecosystem). These sensors are deployed extensively across global heavy industry — including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power stations, offshore platforms, and rotating machinery installations — where continuous, non-contact shaft displacement monitoring is a safety-critical requirement. The PR6424 series operates on the eddy current principle, providing high-resolution, temperature-stable measurements of radial and axial shaft position, typically interfaced with EPRO MMS 6000 or compatible vibration monitoring systems. Their IP67-rated housings and wide operating temperature ranges make them a standard specification in API 670-compliant machinery protection systems.

The Evolution of PR6424 Architecture

The PR6424 series was introduced by EPRO as a standardized eddy current sensor platform designed for compatibility with the CON 011, CON 021, and MMS 6120/6220 signal conditioning modules. Early variants (circa 1990s) featured fixed cable lengths and single-range sensitivity (8 mV/µm). Subsequent revisions introduced selectable sensitivity options, extended cable configurations via extension cables (TQ series), and improved EMI shielding for use in high-interference environments such as variable-frequency drive (VFD) motor rooms and high-voltage switchgear areas.

With the acquisition of EPRO by GE (and subsequently Baker Hughes), the PR6424 platform was maintained as a legacy-compatible line, ensuring backward compatibility with installed MMS 6000 series monitoring racks. The series entered its mature/sustaining phase circa 2015. New installations increasingly specify the Bently Nevada 3300 XL or 330100 series as modern equivalents, but the PR6424 remains the only drop-in replacement for existing EPRO-based machinery protection systems without requiring recalibration or rack modification. Long-term maintenance support for this series is therefore a primary procurement driver.

Sourcing Hard-to-Find & Obsolete PR6424 Parts

DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory program for the EPRO PR6424 series, recognizing that the majority of installed base units are operating within legacy MMS 6000 monitoring racks that cannot be economically upgraded. Our sourcing network covers new-old-stock (NOS), factory-refurbished, and tested-used units across all PR6424 cable length and housing variants. For plant operators facing end-of-life procurement challenges — including discontinued part numbers and long OEM lead times — DriveKNMS provides a documented chain-of-custody for all supplied units, with full traceability to original manufacturer batch records where available. Emergency same-day quotation is available for shutdown and turnaround (TAR) procurement scenarios.

Quality Control for the PR6424 Range

Each PR6424 unit processed by DriveKNMS undergoes a structured verification protocol specific to eddy current sensor technology. Testing includes: static sensitivity verification (mV/µm output linearity across the full 0–5 mm measurement range), cable continuity and insulation resistance testing (minimum 100 MΩ at 500 VDC), connector integrity inspection (M12 thread condition, pin alignment, and sealing), and functional loop test against a calibrated CON 011 or MMS 6120 signal conditioner to confirm end-to-end system output within ±2% of nominal. Units exhibiting sensitivity drift, cable damage, or connector corrosion are quarantined and not offered for resale. Test records are retained and available upon request for quality audit purposes.
