Technical Dossier
The Fuji Electric 7MBI series represents one of the most widely deployed families of IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) power modules in global heavy industry. Installed across chemical processing plants, nuclear power auxiliary systems, petroleum refinery drive systems, steel mill rolling lines, and large-scale HVAC infrastructure, the 7MBI series has established a dominant position in medium-voltage inverter and servo drive applications. Its standardized package footprint and consistent gate-drive interface made it the default choice for OEM drive manufacturers throughout the 1990s and 2000s, and a significant installed base remains in active service worldwide. DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of 7MBI series modules to support ongoing maintenance, emergency replacement, and lifecycle extension programs for facilities that cannot justify full drive replacement.
The 7MBI designation follows Fuji Electric's standard module naming convention: 7 = 7th generation IGBT chip technology, MBI = Module Bipolar IGBT, followed by current rating and voltage class. The series spans collector current ratings from 15A to 600A and voltage classes of 600V (suffix -060) and 1200V (suffix -120), covering the full range of industrial inverter requirements.
Early 7MBI modules used planar IGBT cell structures with relatively high saturation voltages (Vce(sat) ~2.5–3.0V). Mid-generation revisions introduced fine-pattern trench-gate cells, reducing conduction losses by approximately 20% while maintaining the same package pinout — a critical compatibility feature for retrofit applications. The most recent 7MBI variants incorporate soft-recovery freewheeling diodes co-packaged in the same module, eliminating the need for external diode snubbers in many topologies.
Compatibility note: 7MBI modules share the same 62mm standard package (IEC 60747-15 compliant) with many competing brands, but gate threshold voltage (Vge(th)) and transconductance curves differ between chip generations. Drive boards designed for early 7MBI variants may require gate resistor adjustment when substituting later-generation chips. Always verify Vge(th) and Vce(sat) curves before cross-referencing.
The entire 7MBI series has entered the mature/end-of-life phase of its product lifecycle. Fuji Electric has transitioned current production to the 7MBR and V-series platforms. As a result, 7MBI modules are no longer manufactured in volume, and procurement is exclusively through authorized distributors, independent stocking dealers, and refurbished parts suppliers. Long-term maintenance support — including tested surplus stock, functional testing, and application engineering — is a core competency of DriveKNMS for this series.
The following SKUs represent the primary active and obsolete members of the 7MBI series. All units are classified by function and current/voltage rating.
600V Class (suffix -060) — Standard Industrial Inverter Modules
1200V Class (suffix -120) — High-Voltage Drive and Traction Modules
The 7MBI series is fully discontinued from Fuji Electric's active production schedule. Lead times through standard distribution channels are indefinite, and many part numbers are available only from secondary market inventory. DriveKNMS operates a dedicated obsolete parts procurement program for the 7MBI series, covering the following support functions:
Facilities operating Fuji Frenic, Frenic-Multi, or third-party OEM drives built on 7MBI modules are advised to establish a minimum buffer stock of critical phase-leg modules. DriveKNMS can assist with consumption analysis and recommended stocking levels based on drive count and operating hours.
All 7MBI modules processed by DriveKNMS undergo a structured inspection and functional test protocol prior to dispatch:
Test records are retained per batch and available upon request for quality-critical procurement.
