Technical Dossier
The DS200 hardware lineage originates from GE's Mark IV simplex control platform of the early 1980s, which used discrete analog signal boards with limited self-diagnostics. The Mark V system, introduced in the late 1980s and widely deployed through the 1990s, standardized the DS200 module form factor — a VME-adjacent card format with a proprietary GE backplane connector. DS200 boards communicate over the IONET (I/O Network) serial bus and the ARCNET-based IONet topology used in Mark V R, S, and T controller triplex configurations.
By the mid-2000s, GE transitioned to the Mark VI platform (DS200 to IS200 module prefix), which retained physical compatibility in some rack positions but introduced Ethernet-based IONet and expanded diagnostics. The Mark VIe (IS420 prefix) followed, moving to a fully distributed I/O architecture. As of 2026, the DS200 series is in the mature-to-obsolete lifecycle phase. GE no longer manufactures most DS200 boards as new production; however, the installed base remains active at thousands of sites operating under long-term service agreements or independent maintenance contracts. Compatibility between DS200 and IS200 modules is board-specific and must be verified against the applicable Mark V/VI application software revision.
The following SKUs represent verified, commonly sourced DS200 series modules. Each entry reflects the board's primary functional role within the Mark V/VI control architecture.

DS200 boards present specific test challenges due to their proprietary backplane bus protocol, mixed analog/digital signal paths, and age-related component degradation including electrolytic capacitor ESR drift, EEPROM data retention issues, and ARCNET transceiver failure. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all DS200 inventory:
