Technical Dossier
The GE Fanuc VersaMax series (IC200 platform) is a modular programmable logic controller system deployed across global heavy industry sectors including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power auxiliary systems, offshore platforms, and continuous-process manufacturing. Its distributed I/O architecture and backplane-based expansion capability made it a standard-bearer for mid-range automation from the late 1990s through the 2010s. Installed base remains substantial, with active maintenance requirements at facilities operating on 20–30 year equipment lifecycles. The IC200PWR002 is a 24 VDC input power supply module rated for the VersaMax CPU and I/O carrier backplane, providing regulated power to the module bus.
The VersaMax platform was introduced by GE Fanuc Automation in the late 1990s as a successor to the Series 90 Micro and a complement to the Series 90-30 (IC693) line. The IC200 designation covers the core VersaMax CPU, power supply, and I/O module family. Early revisions used a proprietary Genius bus for field device communication; subsequent generations added Profibus-DP, DeviceNet, and Ethernet/IP adapter modules, extending the platform's integration reach into modern DCS environments.
The architecture separates the CPU carrier from I/O expansion carriers, connected via a local bus. Power supply modules (IC200PWR001, IC200PWR002) mount directly on the CPU carrier and supply regulated voltage to all modules on that carrier. Expansion power supplies (IC200PWR101, IC200PWR102) serve remote I/O expansion racks. As the platform matured, GE (later rebranded under Emerson / Intelligent Platforms, then acquired by Emerson) transitioned support to the RX3i (IC695) platform, placing the IC200 series in a long-term maintenance phase. Compatibility between IC200 and IC695 is not direct; migration requires hardware replacement and logic re-validation.

Communication Adapter Modules
VersaMax modules use a proprietary backplane bus for inter-module communication. Functional verification requires simulation of the backplane electrical environment, not merely bench power application. DriveKNMS testing procedures for IC200 modules include: backplane bus signal integrity verification, power supply output voltage and ripple measurement under load, discrete I/O point-by-point continuity and switching verification, analog module calibration check against reference signals, and communication adapter protocol handshake validation where applicable. Power supply modules (IC200PWR001, IC200PWR002, IC200PWR101, IC200PWR102) are load-tested at rated output current with thermal monitoring. All tested units are labeled with test date and technician reference prior to packaging.
