Technical Dossier
The GE IS2020 series is a core hardware platform within the GE Mark VIe Distributed Control System (DCS), deployed across global heavy industry sectors including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power stations, offshore platforms, combined-cycle gas turbine plants, and pulp and paper facilities. The IS2020 designation covers a broad family of rack-mounted I/O, power, communication, and controller modules engineered to operate within the Mark VIe TMR (Triple Modular Redundancy) and simplex control architectures. Installed base spans hundreds of facilities across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific, making long-term parts availability a critical operational concern for plant maintenance teams.
The IS2020 series succeeded the earlier Mark V and Mark VI hardware generations. Mark V (IS200 prefix) modules used VME-based backplane architecture with proprietary IONet communication. The transition to Mark VI introduced the IS200 series with Ethernet-based IONet, while Mark VIe expanded to the IS2020 platform with dual Ethernet redundancy (IONET and UDH — Unit Data Highway), supporting both legacy serial I/O and modern Ethernet I/O packs.
The IS2020 backplane uses a high-density connector system incompatible with earlier IS200 boards at the physical level, though software configuration overlap exists via ToolboxST. Facilities running mixed Mark VI / Mark VIe environments must account for firmware version alignment between VCMI, VCRC, and I/O pack firmware. End-of-sale notices for several IS2020 modules were issued between 2018 and 2022, shifting procurement to the aftermarket and authorized repair channel.

Multiple IS2020 series modules have reached end-of-sale status with GE Vernova (formerly GE Gas Power). For facilities operating Mark VIe systems beyond the original hardware lifecycle — typically 15 to 25 years in power generation and refining applications — aftermarket procurement is the primary supply channel.
DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of IS2020 series modules sourced from decommissioned plant assets, authorized repair facilities, and OEM surplus channels. All units are subject to pre-shipment inspection. For obsolete or low-availability part numbers, DriveKNMS provides cross-reference analysis to identify compatible substitute modules where direct replacements are unavailable. Lead times for critical spares are communicated at the time of inquiry. Emergency same-day quotation is available for shutdown-critical requirements.
IS2020 modules incorporate high-density VME backplane connectors and proprietary GE bus communication protocols. Standard bench testing procedures are insufficient for validating IS2020 module functionality. DriveKNMS applies a structured test protocol specific to this series:
Test records are retained per shipment and available upon request for quality-audited procurement programs.
