Technical Dossier
The KYLAND KIEN3016BGE series represents a purpose-built line of managed industrial Ethernet switches designed for deployment in high-reliability, mission-critical environments. These units are installed across global heavy industry sectors including petrochemical processing plants, nuclear power generation facilities, offshore oil and gas platforms, and large-scale refinery automation networks. The series is engineered to IEC 61850 substation automation standards and supports ring redundancy protocols (RSTP/MSTP) with sub-50ms recovery times, making it a backbone-level component in distributed control system (DCS) and SCADA network architectures. KYLAND, headquartered in Beijing, China, is a recognized OEM supplier to major DCS integrators and has achieved wide installed-base penetration across Asia-Pacific and European industrial automation markets.
The KIEN3016BGE product line was developed as part of KYLAND's second-generation industrial Ethernet platform, succeeding the earlier KIEN series which lacked full managed-switch capability and advanced ring redundancy. The KIEN3016BGE architecture introduced a 16-port configuration as the standard chassis baseline, with suffix codes denoting port media type (copper RJ45 vs. fiber SFP), power input range (24VDC, 48VDC, or 110/220VAC), and operating temperature class (standard 0–60°C vs. extended -40–85°C).
Early variants in this series used proprietary KYLAND KRPF (KYLAND Ring Protection Fast) redundancy, which was later harmonized with IEEE 802.1w RSTP and IEEE 802.1s MSTP in firmware revisions post-2015. This created a compatibility boundary: units manufactured before firmware v3.x may require manual VLAN and QoS reconfiguration when integrated with third-party switches from Hirschmann, Moxa, or Cisco IE series. Units from 2018 onward support SNMPv3, IEEE 802.1Q VLAN trunking, and IGMP snooping v2/v3 natively. The series has entered the mature/end-of-active-production phase; KYLAND no longer lists it as a primary catalog item, making long-term maintenance support and spare parts sourcing a critical operational concern for installed-base operators.
The following SKUs represent verified models within the KIEN3016BGE series. Each unit is a managed Layer 2 industrial Ethernet switch with variant-specific port configuration, media type, and power supply specification.

KIEN3016BGE-16T-AC: 16-port 10/100Base-TX copper RJ45, 110/220VAC dual-input power supply variant.
KIEN3016BGE-14T2F: 14-port copper RJ45 + 2-port 100Base-FX fiber (SC connector), ring topology support.
KIEN3016BGE-12T4F: 12-port copper RJ45 + 4-port 100Base-FX fiber, extended fiber uplink capacity.
KIEN3016BGE-8T8F: 8-port copper RJ45 + 8-port 100Base-FX fiber, balanced hybrid media configuration.
KIEN3016BGE-16F: 16-port 100Base-FX full-fiber variant, SC duplex connectors, for EMI-intensive environments.
KIEN3016BGE-16T-EX: 16-port copper RJ45, extended temperature -40°C to +85°C, for outdoor or harsh-environment cabinets.
KIEN3016BGE-14T2F-EX: 14T+2F hybrid, extended temperature class, DIN-rail, 24VDC.
KIEN3016BGE-12T4F-EX: 12T+4F hybrid, extended temperature, suitable for rail and transit automation.

KIEN3016BGE-16T-48V: 16-port copper, 48VDC power input, telecom and utility substation power rail compatible.
KIEN3016BGE-14T2F-48V: 14T+2F hybrid, 48VDC input, substation automation deployment variant.
KIEN3016BGE-16T-DC2: 16-port copper, dual 24VDC redundant power inputs for high-availability installations.
KIEN3016BGE-12T4F-DC2: 12T+4F hybrid, dual redundant 24VDC power inputs, RSTP ring-ready.
KIEN3016BGE-8T8F-DC2: 8T+8F hybrid, dual redundant DC power, for critical process control network segments.
KIEN3016BGE-16F-DC2: Full 16-port fiber, dual redundant DC power, maximum fault-tolerance configuration.
As the KIEN3016BGE series has transitioned out of active KYLAND production, procurement through standard distribution channels is no longer reliable. Lead times from authorized distributors frequently exceed 16–26 weeks, and many specific suffix variants (particularly extended-temperature and dual-power models) are listed as discontinued with no direct replacement mapping provided by the OEM.
DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory program for KYLAND legacy and end-of-life industrial networking hardware. Our sourcing network covers verified secondary-market stock, de-installed units from plant decommissioning projects, and new-old-stock (NOS) units from regional KYLAND distribution partners across Asia-Pacific. All units are subject to pre-shipment inspection before dispatch. For operators running KIEN3016BGE switches in long-term DCS or SCADA environments, DriveKNMS provides lifecycle extension support including unit-level replacement sourcing, firmware version documentation, and cross-reference to compatible KYLAND successor models where applicable.
Industrial Ethernet switches present specific verification challenges compared to passive components. For the KIEN3016BGE series, DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all units processed through our facility:
Port-level continuity and link negotiation test: Each RJ45 and fiber port is individually tested for 10/100Mbps auto-negotiation, link-up confirmation, and frame transmission using a dedicated Ethernet test set. Fiber ports are tested with matched SC patch cables and optical power meter verification.
Management plane verification: Web GUI and CLI access is confirmed via console port and in-band management VLAN. Firmware version is recorded and compared against KYLAND's published revision history.
Ring redundancy protocol test: Units are bench-tested in a 3-switch ring topology to verify RSTP/KRPF failover behavior and recovery time measurement.
Power supply input range test: Input voltage is applied at nominal, high-limit, and low-limit values per the unit's rated specification. Dual-power variants are tested for seamless switchover under simulated primary power loss.
Thermal and visual inspection: Capacitor condition, PCB corrosion, and connector integrity are inspected under magnification. Units showing signs of thermal stress or electrolytic capacitor bulging are rejected from inventory.
