Technical Dossier
The MITA WP Series represents one of the most widely deployed Human-Machine Interface (HMI) platforms in heavy industrial environments across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. Installed in chemical processing plants, petroleum refineries, nuclear auxiliary control rooms, and large-scale water treatment facilities, the WP Series established MITA's position as a tier-one HMI supplier for distributed control system (DCS) front-end visualization. The WP4051 is a mid-range color touch panel within this series, designed for panel-mount integration in NEMA-rated enclosures. Its resistive touch technology, industrial-grade display, and serial/Ethernet communication stack made it a standard specification item for system integrators working with Yokogawa CENTUM, Honeywell TDC, and Siemens PCS 7 environments during the 2000s–2010s deployment cycle.
The MITA WP Series evolved through three distinct hardware generations. The first generation (WP2000 sub-series) used passive-matrix LCD panels with RS-232/RS-485 serial-only communication, targeting legacy relay-logic replacement projects. The second generation (WP3000/WP4000 sub-series) introduced active-matrix TFT color displays, resistive touch overlays, and dual-port Ethernet alongside retained serial interfaces — enabling simultaneous connection to both legacy PLCs and modern DCS historians. The WP4051 belongs to this second generation, featuring a 10.4-inch TFT display, 800×600 SVGA resolution, and support for Modbus RTU/TCP, MELSEC, and OMRON Host Link protocols. The third generation (WP5000/WP6000 sub-series) transitioned to projected capacitive (PCAP) touch, ARM Cortex-A processors, and OPC-UA native stacks, rendering the WP4000 sub-series functionally obsolete for new projects but sustaining high demand for maintenance and replacement in installed-base applications. Compatibility between generations is limited: WP4000-series project files require conversion utilities to migrate to WP5000 targets, and backplane mounting dimensions differ between sub-series, making direct physical substitution non-trivial.

The WP2000 and WP3000 sub-series have been formally discontinued by MITA, with the WP4000 sub-series — including the WP4051 — classified as mature/end-of-active-production. OEM lead times for WP4051 units through standard distribution channels are extended or unavailable. DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of tested WP Series units sourced through authorized secondary-market channels, decommissioned plant asset liquidations, and OEM overstock programs. For operators running WP4051 panels in long-lifecycle DCS environments (15–25 year plant cycles), DriveKNMS provides lifecycle extension support including: verified replacement units with full functional test reports, display backlight and touch overlay sub-assembly replacement, firmware version matching to ensure compatibility with existing project files, and exchange programs where a defective unit is returned against a tested replacement to minimize downtime. All WP4051 units shipped by DriveKNMS include a 12-month warranty against hardware failure under normal operating conditions.
MITA WP Series panels present specific quality verification challenges due to their integrated display, touch, and communication subsystems. DriveKNMS applies a structured test protocol to all WP Series units prior to dispatch. Display verification covers full-screen color uniformity, pixel defect mapping (ISO 13406-2 Class II standard), and backlight luminance measurement. Touch calibration is performed using a 25-point grid test to verify resistive overlay linearity and pressure sensitivity across the full active area. Communication port testing covers RS-232 and RS-485 loopback at 9600–115200 baud, and Ethernet port verification at 10/100 Mbps with ICMP and Modbus TCP transaction testing. Internal memory and CompactFlash (where fitted) are verified for read/write integrity. Each unit is powered for a minimum 4-hour burn-in cycle at 45°C ambient to screen for early-life component failures. A test report is issued with each unit, documenting all measured parameters.
