Technical Dossier
The ANB module architecture was introduced with the CENTUM CS 3000 platform (released 1998) as a replacement for the earlier CENTUM-XL and μXL analog I/O cards. The original ANB series used a parallel backplane bus architecture with proprietary Yokogawa V-net communication. With the transition to CENTUM VP (released 2008), Yokogawa introduced Vnet/IP — an Ethernet-based control network — while maintaining backward hardware compatibility with existing ANB modules through the use of compatible field control stations. This compatibility layer allowed plant operators to migrate from CS 3000 to VP without replacing field I/O hardware, significantly extending the operational lifespan of ANB series modules into the 2020s. The ANB10D sub-family (including the ANB10D-427) represents the second-generation design with improved noise immunity, higher channel density, and support for HART pass-through communication on select variants. As CENTUM VP itself approaches its mature lifecycle phase, Yokogawa has introduced the CENTUM VP R6 and the successor FAST/TOOLS integration layer, but ANB hardware remains the dominant I/O standard in the installed base. Plants operating these systems require a reliable supply of ANB modules for corrective maintenance, preventive replacement, and capacity expansion — often for systems with 15–25 year remaining operational horizons.
The following catalog covers verified ANB series modules used in CENTUM CS 3000 and CENTUM VP field control stations. Modules are classified by function:
Analog Input Modules (AI)
Analog Output Modules (AO)
Digital Input Modules (DI)
Digital Output Modules (DO)
Communication / Bus Modules
ANB series modules incorporate a multi-layer backplane connector and proprietary Yokogawa bus interface that requires specialized test procedures beyond standard I/O verification. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all ANB modules prior to dispatch: (1) Visual inspection of backplane connector pins, conformal coating integrity, and capacitor condition; (2) Power-on self-test (POST) verification using a CENTUM CS 3000 or VP field control station test bench; (3) Channel-by-channel analog accuracy verification against calibrated reference signals (traceable to JCSS / NIST standards); (4) Bus communication integrity test — confirming correct V-net or Vnet/IP node registration and data transmission without CRC errors; (5) HART communication pass-through test (for HART-capable variants including ANB10D-427); (6) 48-hour burn-in cycle at elevated ambient temperature (50°C) to screen for early-life failures. Modules that fail any stage are quarantined, documented, and either repaired to specification or scrapped — they are not returned to inventory.
