The Emerson AMS 6500 platform was designed for continuous, online vibration monitoring of critical rotating machinery — turbines, compressors, pumps, and gearboxes — where undetected bearing or shaft faults carry catastrophic risk. The A6500-UM Universal Measurement Card is the signal acquisition backbone of this system. It accepts inputs from accelerometers, velocity transducers, and proximity probes, converting raw vibration data into the processed signals that the AMS 6500 rack transmits to plant DCS and historian systems.
Obsolete industrial electronics sourced from the secondary market carry inherent risk if not properly evaluated before installation. DriveKNMS applies a five-step inspection protocol to every A6500-UM card before it is offered for sale:
Step 1 – Electrolytic Capacitor Assessment: Capacitor aging is the primary failure mode in electronics that have been in storage or light service for extended periods. Each board is inspected under magnification for signs of electrolyte leakage, bulging, or ESR degradation. Suspect capacitors are flagged and the unit is quarantined.
Step 2 – Firmware Version Verification: AMS 6500 measurement cards carry embedded firmware that must be compatible with the rack controller version in use at the destination facility. We document the firmware revision on each unit and provide this information prior to shipment so the receiving engineer can confirm compatibility before installation.
Step 3 – Pin and Connector Inspection: Backplane connector pins are examined for oxidation, mechanical deformation, and corrosion. Cards with compromised connectors are not offered for sale. Clean connectors are treated with appropriate contact preservative.
Step 4 – Board-Level Continuity and Isolation Testing: Basic electrical continuity checks are performed across signal paths. Units that fail continuity testing are removed from inventory.
Step 5 – Packaging and ESD Protection: All units are packaged in anti-static bags with desiccant and rigid outer packaging rated for international freight. Each shipment includes a condition report.
How do I confirm the unit is new surplus or quality-refurbished — not a counterfeit?
We provide documentation of the unit's physical condition, firmware revision, and inspection results prior to shipment. We do not represent units as new-in-box unless they are confirmed factory-sealed. Refurbished units are clearly identified as such. We do not source from unverified brokers.
Should I purchase more than one unit?
For facilities with multiple AMS 6500 racks or with Tier 1 rotating equipment under continuous monitoring, holding two spare measurement cards is a defensible engineering decision. As secondary market availability of AMS 6500 components continues to decline, the cost of sourcing a second unit in an emergency will be materially higher than the cost of purchasing it today alongside a primary spare.
