Technical Dossier
The Emerson DeltaV KJ3002X1 series of Analog Input Modules occupies a critical position in global heavy-industry distributed control system (DCS) deployments. These modules are installed across petrochemical refineries, nuclear power facilities, offshore platforms, and large-scale chemical processing plants where signal integrity and long-term platform stability are non-negotiable operational requirements. The KJ3002X1 series interfaces field-level 4–20 mA HART signals to the DeltaV controller network, providing 8-channel isolated analog input with per-channel HART pass-through capability. Its architecture is designed for continuous 24/7 operation in Class I Division 2 hazardous environments. The installed base of this series spans multiple decades of DeltaV platform generations, making lifecycle parts availability a primary concern for plant maintenance engineers worldwide.
The DeltaV Analog Input module lineage traces its origins to the initial DeltaV platform release in the late 1990s. Early-generation modules operated under the DeltaV v5–v7 firmware environment and used a proprietary backplane bus protocol that was incompatible with later CHARM-based I/O architectures introduced in DeltaV v13 and above.
The KJ3002X1 series represents the second-generation analog input design, introducing improved HART 5/6/7 multi-master support and enhanced EMI shielding over its predecessor KJ3001X1. The module communicates over the DeltaV I/O bus via a carrier assembly (the BC1 carrier being the standard 8-slot horizontal carrier), and is firmware-managed through the DeltaV controller without requiring individual module configuration tools.
With the introduction of the Electronic Marshalling architecture (CHARM I/O, CHARacterization Module), Emerson positioned the KJ3002X1 as a legacy-tier module. However, the installed base remains extensive. Plants running DeltaV v10 through v14 on existing hardware cannot migrate to CHARM I/O without significant capital expenditure, making the KJ3002X1 a long-term maintenance item for the foreseeable operational horizon of most facilities commissioned between 2000 and 2015.
Compatibility note: KJ3002X1 modules require a KJ3002X1-BC1 carrier assembly. They are not interchangeable with KJ3001X1 carriers or CHARM baseplates. Firmware compatibility is validated against DeltaV v7.3 through v14.3 LTS.

DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of tested surplus and refurbished KJ3002X1 modules across all revision states. Our sourcing network covers decommissioned DCS systems from refinery turnarounds, plant shutdowns, and system upgrades globally. This allows us to fulfill single-unit emergency replacement orders as well as multi-unit bulk requirements for scheduled maintenance outages.
For plants operating under extended lifecycle agreements (ELA) with Emerson, DriveKNMS can serve as a secondary supply source to supplement OEM support contracts, particularly for revision states no longer stocked by Emerson's own service depots. We maintain traceability documentation for all units, including original system extraction records where available.
The KJ3002X1 module presents specific test challenges due to its multi-channel HART pass-through architecture and isolated backplane bus interface. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all KJ3002X1 units prior to dispatch:
