Technical Dossier
The Emerson DeltaV S-Series I/O platform is one of the most widely deployed distributed control system (DCS) architectures in global heavy industry. Installed across petrochemical refineries, nuclear power facilities, LNG terminals, pharmaceutical batch plants, and offshore platforms, the DeltaV S-Series defines the benchmark for field-level signal conditioning and controller-to-field communication. The KJ3222X1-BA1 (part number 12P2532X072) is a standard 8-channel Analog Input module within this ecosystem, designed for 4–20 mA HART-enabled field instruments. Its modular backplane architecture allows hot-swap replacement without process interruption, a critical requirement in continuous-operation facilities.
The DeltaV platform was introduced by Fisher-Rosemount (later acquired by Emerson Electric) in 1996 as a scalable, node-based DCS. The S-Series I/O subsystem evolved through three distinct generations. The first generation (1996–2002) established the KJ-prefix module family with parallel backplane communication. The second generation (2003–2012) introduced HART pass-through at the module level, enabling asset management integration via AMS Device Manager. The third generation (2013–present) added Electronic Marshalling via CHARM (Characterization Module) technology, allowing field wiring to be terminated independently of I/O type assignment.
The following SKUs represent the core module range of the Emerson DeltaV S-Series I/O platform. Each module is designed for direct installation into DeltaV S-Series carrier assemblies and communicates via the DeltaV backplane bus.

Controller & Communication Modules
For end-users operating DeltaV systems beyond their original design life, DriveKNMS provides: verified functional testing against Emerson factory specifications; firmware revision documentation for compatibility matching; and cross-reference support for identifying equivalent replacement modules where original part numbers are discontinued. Customers operating in regulated industries (nuclear, pharmaceutical, oil & gas) receive full traceability documentation upon request.
Each KJ-series module processed by DriveKNMS undergoes a structured multi-stage inspection protocol. Stage 1 covers physical inspection: backplane connector pin integrity, conformal coating condition, and capacitor ESR measurement. Stage 2 covers functional testing: the module is installed in a live DeltaV S-Series test rack running DeltaV v13.3 software, and all I/O channels are exercised against calibrated signal sources. For HART-enabled modules such as the KJ3222X1-BA1, HART communication is verified at 1200 baud using a HART communicator. Stage 3 covers burn-in: modules are operated under load for a minimum of 24 hours to screen for early-life failures. All passed units are labeled with a DriveKNMS QC tag and shipped with an inspection report.
