Technical Dossier
The Emerson Epro PR6424 series is an eddy-current proximity transducer system engineered for continuous, non-contact measurement of shaft displacement, vibration, and position in rotating machinery. Deployed across global heavy industry — including petrochemical complexes, nuclear power stations, offshore platforms, and crude oil refineries — the PR6424 series forms a core sensing layer within machinery protection systems (MPS) compliant with API 670. Its ruggedized construction, wide temperature tolerance, and compatibility with Emerson's CSI and Bently Nevada-adjacent signal conditioning infrastructure have made it a standard reference in turbine, compressor, and pump monitoring installations worldwide.
The PR6424 series was developed under the Epro brand (acquired by Emerson as part of its machinery health management portfolio) to address the demand for standardized eddy-current sensing in safety-critical rotating equipment. Early-generation PR6424 probes operated with fixed cable lengths and required matched CON021 or CON011 signal conditioners to maintain calibrated output linearity. The architecture follows a three-component topology: probe (PR6424), extension cable (TK), and signal conditioner (CON021/CON011/CON041).
Over successive generations, the series expanded its cable length options (from 5 m to 140 m extension configurations), introduced ATEX/IECEx-certified variants for Zone 1 hazardous areas, and refined the output signal to a standard -24 VDC bias with 200 mV/mil (7.87 V/mm) sensitivity — ensuring backward compatibility across installed base infrastructure. The PR6424 is now considered a mature-to-legacy series; Emerson's current roadmap positions the PR9268 and PR9376 families as forward migration paths, though PR6424 remains in active service at thousands of sites with 20+ year operational horizons.

The PR6424 series has entered a mature lifecycle phase. Emerson has progressively reduced factory stock of certain cable-length and conditioner combinations, making field replacement increasingly dependent on specialist distributors and MRO (maintenance, repair, and operations) suppliers. DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory buffer for PR6424 assemblies, including low-volume configurations such as CON041 ATEX variants and non-standard cable lengths (5 m, 50 m, 80 m, 100 m).
For plants operating under long-term service agreements (LTSA) or those managing aging DCS/MPS infrastructure without a planned upgrade cycle, DriveKNMS provides lifecycle extension support: verified surplus stock, functional testing prior to dispatch, and cross-reference matching between discontinued part numbers and current equivalents. Requests for bill-of-materials (BOM) matching across multiple PR6424 SKUs are handled directly by our technical team.
PR6424 proximity transducer assemblies involve three interdependent components — probe, extension cable, and signal conditioner — each of which must be verified independently and as a matched system. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all PR6424 units prior to shipment:
Static gap calibration: Each probe is bench-tested against a calibrated steel target at defined air gaps (0.25 mm, 0.50 mm, 1.00 mm, 1.50 mm, 2.00 mm) to verify output linearity within ±1% of nominal sensitivity (200 mV/mil / 7.87 V/mm).
DC bias verification: CON021/CON011/CON041 conditioners are powered at nominal supply (-24 VDC) and output bias voltage is measured at mid-gap to confirm -12 VDC ±0.5 V.
Cable continuity and insulation resistance: Extension cables are tested for conductor continuity and insulation resistance (>100 MΩ at 500 VDC) to detect moisture ingress or mechanical damage.
System-level functional test: Probe, cable, and conditioner are tested as a matched assembly to confirm end-to-end signal chain integrity before packaging.
Visual and mechanical inspection: Probe tip, connector threads, and cable armor are inspected for corrosion, deformation, or contamination that could affect field installation.
