Technical Dossier
The PR6424 series was introduced as part of EPRO's second-generation eddy current product line, succeeding the earlier PR6422 and PR6423 families. The core operating principle — electromagnetic induction between a coil-tipped probe and a conductive target surface — has remained unchanged, but successive revisions addressed three engineering challenges: cable length standardization, connector interchangeability, and EMI immunity in high-frequency drive environments.
Early PR6424 variants used proprietary EPRO extension cables (PR9376 series) with fixed impedance matching. Later revisions introduced the standardized TNC connector interface, enabling field replacement without recalibration in many installations. The introduction of the /CN suffix (e.g., PR6424/010-040-CN) denotes a cable-integrated, non-interchangeable probe-cable assembly — a design choice that eliminates connector resistance variation at the cost of modular replacement. Modern installations in new-build plants increasingly specify the PR6424 alongside digital output conditioning modules, though the analog 4–20 mA and ±24 V output variants remain dominant in brownfield retrofit projects where legacy DCS I/O cards are retained. The series is now in its mature/end-of-production lifecycle; EPRO's current active catalog directs new designs toward the PR6426 and PR9268 families, but the PR6424 remains the primary spare parts requirement for the installed base through at least 2035.
