The EPRO PR6424 series is a family of eddy current proximity sensors manufactured by EPRO GmbH (now part of Baker Hughes / Bently Nevada ecosystem). These sensors are deployed globally in heavy industrial environments including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power stations, offshore platforms, and rotating machinery protection systems. The PR6424 series functions as the sensing element within complete vibration and position monitoring chains, typically paired with CON021, CON011, or CON041 signal conditioning units. Their non-contact measurement principle makes them the standard choice for shaft displacement, radial vibration, and axial position monitoring on turbines, compressors, pumps, and motors.
The PR6424 series was developed as part of EPRO's eddy current sensor platform, designed to be fully compatible with the CON0xx series signal conditioners and the MMS 6000 / MMS 3000 machinery monitoring systems. Early variants were characterized by fixed cable lengths and limited temperature ratings. Subsequent generations introduced extended temperature ranges (up to 177°C tip temperature), improved EMI shielding, and standardized M12 connector interfaces. The series uses a 5 mm nominal sensing gap with a linear range of approximately 0–2 mm, operating at a carrier frequency of 1 MHz. Cable lengths are encoded in the part number (e.g., /010 = 1.0 m, /050 = 5.0 m, /090 = 9.0 m). The CON021 conditioner paired with this sensor provides a –24 VDC output signal scaled at –7.87 V/mm, compatible with API 670 machinery protection standards. As the broader EPRO product line has been absorbed into Baker Hughes Bently Nevada, cross-compatibility and migration paths to the 3300 XL series are a key consideration for long-term plant maintenance strategies.
