The EPRO PR6424 series is a family of eddy current proximity sensors engineered for continuous, non-contact displacement and vibration measurement in rotating machinery. Deployed across global heavy industry — including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power stations, offshore platforms, and large-scale turbomachinery installations — the PR6424 series forms a critical layer of the machinery protection infrastructure in plants operating under API 670 and ISO 10816 standards. These sensors interface directly with EPRO MMS 6000, Bently Nevada 3500, and compatible vibration monitoring systems, making them a universal component in both OEM and retrofit protection architectures.
The PR6424 series was developed by EPRO GmbH (Germany) as part of its eddy current transducer system, designed to operate in conjunction with dedicated signal conditioning drivers (CON0xx series). The sensor operates on the eddy current principle: a high-frequency oscillating magnetic field is generated at the probe tip; when a conductive target enters the field, eddy currents are induced, altering the oscillator impedance in proportion to the gap distance.
Early PR6424 variants were specified for 5 mm and 8 mm tip diameters with fixed cable lengths, targeting steam turbine shaft displacement monitoring. As industrial standards evolved, EPRO expanded the series to cover a wider range of cable lengths (from 1 m to 9 m extension cables), connector types (CON011, CON021, CON031, CON041), and target material compensation. Modern PR6424 variants are fully compatible with the EPRO MMS 6000 series and can be cross-referenced to Bently Nevada 3300 XL 8mm probes in many installations. The series is now in a mature/sustained phase — production continues for active variants, but several early cable-integrated configurations have been discontinued. Long-term maintenance support for obsolete sub-variants is a primary sourcing requirement for end users.

Verification steps include: (1) static gap sensitivity calibration using a certified steel target at 0.25 mm, 1.0 mm, and 2.0 mm gaps to confirm output linearity within ±0.5% of EPRO factory specification; (2) oscillator frequency check at the probe tip to confirm the driver-probe system resonance is within the CON021 or applicable driver's tuning range; (3) cable continuity and insulation resistance test (minimum 100 MΩ at 500 VDC) for integral cable variants; (4) connector interface inspection for CON021 bayonet lock integrity and pin condition; (5) thermal soak test at 70°C for 30 minutes to screen latent failures in cable insulation.
