Technical Dossier
The VersaMax platform was introduced in the late 1990s as a cost-optimized successor to GE's Series 90-30 (IC693) line, sharing the same Logicmaster/Proficy Machine Edition programming environment. The IC200 backplane uses a proprietary parallel bus at 5 VDC logic levels, with module slots rated for mixed analog and digital I/O without slot restrictions. Early CPU generations (CPUE05, CPUE10) used 10/100 Ethernet with embedded Modbus TCP and SRTP protocols. Later revisions introduced enhanced memory (up to 32K logic words) and expanded Ethernet port counts. The -EH suffix on the IC200CPUE05-EH denotes an enhanced hardware revision with improved EMI tolerance and extended operating temperature range (0–60°C). Compatibility note: IC200 modules are not electrically interchangeable with IC693 (Series 90-30) or IC695 (RX3i) modules despite sharing the Proficy ME programming environment. Backplane bus voltages and connector pinouts differ across all three families. Sites migrating from IC200 to IC695 require full rack replacement and I/O rewiring.
