GE DS200 Series Technical Notes

The GE DS200 series represents the core I/O, control, and communication module family deployed within GE's Mark VI and Mark VIe Turbine Control Systems. These systems are installed across critical global infrastructure including gas turbine power plants, combined-cycle facilities, nuclear auxiliary systems, petrochemical refineries, and offshore oil & gas platforms. The DS200 platform is recognized as one of the most widely deployed turbine control architectures in heavy industry, with active installations spanning North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. Its modular backplane architecture allows for granular replacement of individual function cards without full system shutdown, making spare parts availability a primary operational concern for plant maintenance engineers.

The Evolution of DS200 Architecture

The DS200 module family was introduced as part of GE's Mark VI Speedtronic turbine control platform in the mid-1990s, succeeding the earlier Mark V (DS3800 / DS3820 series) architecture. Mark VI introduced a triple-redundant TMR (Triple Modular Redundancy) voting architecture, with DS200 modules serving as the primary I/O and signal conditioning layer between field instrumentation and the VCMI/VCRC controller core.

With the transition to Mark VIe in the 2000s, GE migrated the backplane communication protocol from the proprietary IONet to an Ethernet-based distributed I/O architecture (DENET). Many DS200 modules were carried forward into Mark VIe compatibility with revised firmware, while others were superseded by the IS200 and IS215 module families. As of 2026, the DS200 series is in a mature-to-end-of-life lifecycle phase. GE (now part of GE Vernova) no longer manufactures the majority of DS200 modules as new production units. Plant operators running Mark VI systems must rely on certified aftermarket suppliers, refurbished inventory, and long-term maintenance support providers to sustain operations.

DS200 Full Catalog & Functionalities (SKU List)

The following SKUs represent verified, commonly deployed modules within the GE DS200 series. Each entry includes its primary functional role within the Mark VI / Mark VIe control architecture.

DS200TCPDG1ADC: TCP/IP power connect card; manages backplane power distribution and communication interface between controller and I/O modules.
DS200TCQAG1BHF: Quad analog input card; processes 4-channel analog signal inputs from field sensors (4–20 mA / 0–10 V).
DS200TCQCG1ADB: Quad contact input card; monitors discrete dry-contact field signals for turbine protection logic.
DS200TCDAH1BHF: Analog output card; provides 4-channel analog output signals to actuators and positioners.
DS200TCDAG1ADB: Analog I/O combination card; dual-function analog input and output for compact panel configurations.
DS200TCEAG1BHF: Excitation analog input card; dedicated to generator excitation system signal conditioning.
DS200TCPSG1ADB: Power supply interface card; regulates and monitors DC power rails within the Mark VI I/O pack.
DS200TCQBG1ADB: Quad contact output card; drives relay-based discrete outputs to field devices and solenoids.
DS200TCRAG1ADB: Resolver input card; processes resolver feedback signals from turbine shaft position sensors.
DS200TCTSG1ADB: Thermocouple input card; acquires temperature data from Type J/K/T thermocouples across turbine hot sections.
DS200TCPAG1ADB: Pulse accumulator card; counts high-frequency pulse inputs from turbine speed probes and flow meters.
DS200TCFBG1ADB: Feedback input card; processes LVDT and position feedback signals from control valves.
DS200TCIBG1ADB: Isolated contact input card; provides galvanically isolated discrete input channels for high-voltage field environments.
DS200TCOBG1ADB: Contact output booster card; amplifies discrete output drive capability for high-current relay coils.
DS200TCSCG1ADB: Serial communication card; provides RS-232/RS-485 serial interface for legacy HMI and SCADA integration.
DS200TCPBG1ADB: Backup power connect card; secondary power distribution module for redundant Mark VI rack configurations.
DS200TCQEG1ADB: Enhanced quad analog input card; upgraded signal resolution variant for precision measurement applications.

Quality Control for the DS200 Range

DS200 modules present specific test challenges due to their backplane-dependent communication architecture. Standalone bench testing is insufficient for validating IONet communication integrity or TMR voting behavior. DriveKNMS employs a Mark VI-compatible test rack environment that replicates the live backplane bus, allowing each module to be validated under simulated operational conditions.
