Technical Dossier
The GE UR (Universal Relay) Series, developed by GE Grid Solutions (formerly GE Multilin), is one of the most widely deployed protection relay platforms in global heavy industry. Installed across chemical processing plants, nuclear power stations, oil refineries, offshore platforms, and high-voltage transmission substations, the UR platform provides a standardized, modular architecture for feeder, transformer, motor, generator, and bus protection. Its distributed I/O design and IEC 61850 compatibility have made it a reference standard in utility-grade protection engineering since the late 1990s. The UR6DH / UR 6DH is a Digital Input/Output module within this platform, providing hardwired contact sensing and output relay control for UR chassis-based relay systems.
The UR platform was introduced in the late 1990s as a successor to GE's earlier SR (System Relay) and DFP (Digital Feeder Protection) product lines. The first-generation UR chassis used a 19-inch rack form factor with a passive backplane and modular plug-in cards, allowing field engineers to configure relay functions by populating specific module slots. Early firmware revisions (pre-v3.x) supported DNP3 and Modbus RTU communications only. From firmware v4.x onward, IEC 61850 GOOSE messaging and IEEE 1588 precision time protocol were introduced, enabling the UR platform to integrate into modern digital substation architectures. The transition from copper-based I/O wiring to fiber-optic inter-relay communication (via the UR's built-in IRIG-B and IEEE C37.94 ports) marked a significant architectural shift. Current production UR relays (UR-series 7xx and 8xx firmware) maintain backward compatibility with legacy 6xx-series I/O modules such as the UR6DH, making long-term mixed-generation installations viable. However, GE has progressively moved end-of-active-production on many 6xx-series modules, placing them in the sustained engineering / lifecycle support phase.
The following SKUs represent verified, commonly stocked modules within the GE UR Series platform. Modules are categorized by functional type:
Digital Input / Output Modules
Analog Input Modules
Communications & Processor Modules
Power Supply Modules
Q: How is condition confirmed before quotation?
A: Available condition, photos, test records and documentation are checked according to the requested model and sourcing channel before a formal RFQ response.
Q: How are RFQ terms confirmed?
A: Quantity, required condition, documentation needs, destination and sourcing route are confirmed during RFQ review before quotation.
