The GE IS200 series is the core I/O and control module platform for GE's Mark VI Turbine Control System, deployed globally in heavy industrial environments including gas turbine power plants, combined-cycle facilities, petrochemical refineries, offshore platforms, and nuclear auxiliary systems. Introduced in the late 1990s as the successor to the Mark V architecture, the IS200 platform standardized the backplane communication bus across GE Energy's turbine control portfolio. Installed base estimates exceed tens of thousands of units across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. The IS200VVIBH1CAC specifically functions as a vibration monitoring input card, accepting proximity probe and accelerometer signals for shaft and bearing vibration surveillance — a safety-critical function in rotating machinery protection.
The IS200 series was engineered to replace the Mark V modular I/O racks, which relied on parallel backplane wiring and proprietary ARCNET communication. The Mark VI platform introduced IONet (Ethernet-based I/O network) with full redundancy support, enabling triple-redundant (TMR) configurations for critical turbine protection. Early IS200 revisions (suffix AA, AB) used 5V CMOS logic on the backplane; later revisions (BA, CA, CAC) transitioned to 3.3V logic with improved EMI shielding and updated FPGA firmware. The IS200VVIBH1CAC carries the CAC hardware revision — a mature production revision with enhanced signal conditioning and improved proximity probe input filtering. Compatibility between hardware revisions requires firmware alignment: mixing early AA boards with late CAC boards in the same rack without firmware synchronization is a documented failure mode. The IS200 platform is now in the mature/end-of-production phase. GE Vernova has transitioned new installations to the Mark VIe (IS420 series) platform. However, the installed base of Mark VI systems will require IS200 spare parts support through at least 2035 based on typical turbine overhaul cycles of 25,000–48,000 operating hours.
