Honeywell Safety Manager 2MLK Series Technical Notes

The Honeywell Safety Manager (SM) platform, anchored by the 2MLK series, is a dedicated Safety Instrumented System (SIS) controller certified to IEC 61511 and IEC 61508 SIL 3. It is deployed globally in high-consequence process industries including petrochemical complexes, LNG terminals, nuclear auxiliary systems, offshore platforms, and refinery critical process units. The 2MLK architecture operates as a standalone or integrated safety layer within Honeywell Experion PKS environments, communicating via the FTE (Fault Tolerant Ethernet) backbone. Its modular backplane design supports redundant CPU configurations, distributed I/O expansion, and dedicated communication adapters — making it the reference architecture for safety shutdown, emergency depressurization, and burner management systems (BMS) in facilities requiring continuous SIL 3 integrity.
